3 Days In A Place In Japan Where Many Tourists Don’t Go (But Should!) – Art Island | City of Jeans π
What a shitty ride. Like literally a shitty ride. It was so full that I was crammed up next to the toilet and this lady went inside and took a massive number two. I could smell the air seeping out of the door right into my nose as I was crammed up in there. Almost passed out. [Music] [Applause] So, I’m just waiting for my ride to come. Should be in the next hour, hour, 20 minutes. And we’re going to take the chopper, head over to Okyama. That’s going to be our next adventure. Nah, just kidding. Ain’t taking no helicopter. Actually, I’m scared of helicopters. Kobe Bryant, I know you’re in heaven. I’m a big fan. But after Kobe Bryant died, I ain’t taking no helicopter. So, we’re going to take the train. We’re going to take the Shinkansen, which is a bullet train from Kyoto all the way to Okyama. And we’re going to stay in Okyama for 3 days. And we’re going to explore Okyama and Noshima, which is an island right across from it. So, let’s go. Oh started raining. [Music] What a shitty ride. Like literally a shitty ride. It was so full that I was crammed up next to the toilet and this lady went inside and took a massive number two. It was massive. This I could smell the air seeping out of the door right into my nose as I was crammed up in there. I almost passed out. [Music] Okay, here’s a little bit of perspective. This is how close my hotel is to the train station. This is my hotel. And that is the train station hotel. Train station. [Music] Okay, let me do a quick room tour. Okay, that’s done. This room is tiny. It’s a lot smaller than my last hotel in Kyoto, and it’s double the price. But location wise, this is right at the train station. So, convenience location. I get off the train station. I walk 5 minutes. Boom. 14th floor. I’m in my hotel. There you go. Has a beautiful view of the city. So, location and view. How is that? [Music] So guys, there’s two ways to get to this historic center. There’s the shopping center, which I’m at now. And there’s also the um on the other side of the street. So, this is more of a shortcut cuz it says shortcut on the sign. I should say taking a long cut. Maybe there’s more stuff to see. But oh well, maybe on our way back we’ll go the long way. [Music] You know, this place has a a different feel than Kyoto and Tokyo, you know. I definitely want to find out more about this place. These are like my childhood toys. I used to have these toys when I was a kid growing up in the Philippines. No. No. Oh. Oh, okay. Sorry. The guy got mad at me for taking pictures of his, you know, toy collection. Look at this bike. I think this is a Triumph. It’s pretty cool. It’s a classic. I still don’t know like what this town is all about. It’s very historic. There are shrines, there are armories, a lot of ceramic um ceramic stores, which I love. Like check this out. I wonder if this place really gets busy like during the weekend cuz right now it’s really dead. Oo, curry, toast, and coffee. I might come back here tomorrow morning. You know, it’s very artsy and some of the places look really chic, some are really old. Then you got the temples and then like the street is so clean. I know what it reminds me of now. My family lives in Niagara Falls in Canada. Kind of reminds me of that small little town um right by the river, right by the uh Niagara on the lake. Just that feel of like a small town, kind of touristy. There’s some really cool stores, antiques, crafts, art, and then some really good restaurants scattered around. They have an I love candy museum. Kind want to see that. A lot of these places are closing though. I might have to come back here again maybe tomorrow or the next day cuz tomorrow I’m going to Noshima. [Music] I’m in awe right now. This place is absolutely stunning. Wow. Like even like right now it’s a little gloomy, but then like the lights and the lake and the water, the reflections, the greenery, some of the historic buildings around like the old wood structures. It’s beyond amazing. It’s beautiful. And um I wish I’ve done some more research before coming here because I really don’t know much about this place. But I will do some research when I get back to the hotel. Stunning. [Music] This the one thing I really love about traveling, guys. There are days where you don’t plan anything. You don’t know much about the area. You just go and you get surprised by how amazing a place is. It’s like today. That’s what happened. and have a burger tonight, guys. I’ve been eating too much Japanese food. So, let’s mix it up a little bit and have a old-fashioned American/Japanese burger. Super nice. I think it’s owned by a couple really nice people. I was like, I want the wasabi burger cuz it looked interesting. Nice. Some have big wasabi right there. And I’m like, no, that’s fake. You know, it’s just like a regular burger with wasabi in it. Then I saw on the menu they have a bacon and egg burger. And the bacon I think they use like the pork belly that they use for ramen. This looks pretty good. So tomorrow I might go to Nawushima tomorrow. So I’m going to start early. So I think that’s why I want to just want to get a burger right now. Go back to the hotel room and uh do some editing cuz I’m still editing my Tokyo videos. That thing is long. I went to so many different places. I think I need to be quicker with my editing. I try to make it like cinematic, you know, and I just for me to do that, it’s going to take me so much time. I just want to like make it into kind of like a vlog with a little bit of cinematic on it, you know, cinematic tones to it. But I just want to tell a better story about like my travels. And the way I tell stories is through my pursuit of food. This is pretty cool. You got Marilyn Monroe as a napkin holder. Oops. Oopsie. That’s hilarious. I like it. Nice. One thing I love too is that they have bottled Coca-Cola. Like look at this glass. Like I remember when I was like in my teens, you know, going to places like Frisco’s this little burger joint in uh LA where the waitresses were like wearing um what do you call them? Um roller skates. That was my first burger experience when I went to LA. And this is like old school bottled coke. Wow. Beautiful. Oh man, look at this gorgeous burger, guys. This is like too beautiful to eat. Check this burger out. Like, that doesn’t look real. Leave it to the Japanese to make the world’s most beautiful hamburger. Even the fries are so well flavored. My god, how am I going to eat this? Here we go. First bite. Bacon and egg hamburger. Bacon smells so good. [Music] [Music] That is so good. It’s like Shi Otani just hit his 50th home run. Oh, is that that’s incredible. So juicy. The meat is like seasoned properly. The lettuce is nice and crusty. The egg is cooked to perfection. It’s smoky. Has tons of umami. Even comes with like this pickled radish just to cut through the fattiness of this burger. M. it’s starting to rain and I didn’t bring an umbrella. See that lightning? Weather gets crazier sometimes. It’ll rain hard for like a couple hours, then boom, nothing. I got to the station just in time. The thunder and the lightning are crazy. I’m on my way to Naoshima Island. So, I just got off the train in this town called Uno. Now, we’re going to take the ferry to the island. [Music] We can Yeah, we can do that. We can do that. We can do that. We can be all we can do. What do you think? Should we rent a bike or not? Should we walk it or ride a bike? Maybe we should rent a bike because we’re only here for a few hours. Check this out. Got myself an electric bike. [Music] Mama noo. [Music] [Music] So, I was stopping by to go to this museum and uh apparently you have to buy your tickets online. Um I asked them if I can buy one here and they said that the earliest one available is at 4:30. So, I said nah. [Music] Yeah. [Music] Nat. [Music] [Music] You just need a second, guys, to soak up all this right now. It’s kind of crazy like thinking about traveling, right? First you look at brochures, you look at like online and see all these very cool destinations and then you wish you can travel to that place, right? And then like 20 years later or 10 years later, you think about like I wish I was looking at this brochure. I wish I could go there. Then you never have a chance to go there because life happens. Either you have kids, you get married and you have, you know, a job that’s takes a lot of your time, you open a business or, you know, some people get sick and never get a chance to travel. So like my advice is always just just do it. I want the world to know. You are my sunshine. You are my sunshine. I want the world to know. You are my sunshine. You are my sunshine. I want the world to know. You are my sunshine. Heat [Music] up [Music] here. Heat. Heat. Wow. Heat. They have plenty of these like small restaurants and cafes. They serve really simple uh comfort food. They’re just a really quiet town. A lot of um tourists that stay here, but I don’t think I want to stay here cuz it’s too quiet for me. It’s too boring. [Music] Lady Gaga. [Music] Can you put on [Music] [Music] [Music] Yeah, some people hit the I know. Hit the head. Especially the um Europeans, the very tall from Denmark and Danish people are very tall. Yeah. [Music] Well, my time on the island is over because my right is here. Here it comes. [Music] What’s up, guys? It’s our last day in Okyama and um not feeling it today. just got sick last night. I was having chills. I got back pains. My stomach hurts. I was nauseated. I couldn’t really sleep. I don’t know if it’s something I ate or just being out in the sun for too long. H just didn’t feel right. I don’t want to waste the day. I’m going to try to go out there and explore the city one last day. I don’t even know if I can eat. I don’t think I can eat anything right now. Like I don’t even have an appetite. Just feel like I’ve wasted most of the day already. It’s already 10:17, almost 10:30. So maybe I’ll jump in the shower and um makes me feel better. [Music] All right, guys. I haven’t eaten anything. Um, it’s already like noon right now, so I don’t have an appetite, but I got to like at least put something in my mouth and put something in my belly because I don’t want to like pass out on the train or pass out on my way there to uh this place that my friend recommended me. At least the clear broth I can can tolerate. [Music] It’s crazy. I haven’t been feeling good since like late last night. [Music] She’s actually helping a little bit. [Music] We just made it. We made it. So glad we made it cuz the next train is like 42 minutes from now. So if I had to wait 42 minutes, I don’t I don’t think I could do it. It’s meant to be that I got on this train. That’s where we’re going. [Music] It’s a little clue and where we’re going. Here’s another clue. And another clue. So, I forgot to mention why we’re here. So, a friend of mine, he lives in LA and he was born here in Japan. He saw my Instagram post showing that I’m in Okyama. So, he hit me up. He says, “Hey, you’re in Okyama. You got to check out Jean Street. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] Heat. Heat. Heat. Heat. You know, I really appreciate the craftsmanship of the Japanese because they devote their time, their energy, all their passion and love into making just one thing. And you can tell by the details of the jeans and the clothes that they’re selling here. So, if you’re in Japan and you really love jeans, come to Cojima because this is where you’ll find the best quality jeans. So, for $200, $300, you get something that’s crafted here in Japan. And uh if you really have a passion for jeans, this is where you need to be. Well, that’s it for me. I just want to do an outro for this video. Thanks for joining me here in Okyama and Noshima. And if you’re not subscribed, please subscribe. Hit that like button. I’m headed to Fukoa tomorrow and that should be fun. And there’s a lot of um food places in Fukuoka. So, it’s like a foodies heaven, you know. It’ll be great to hopefully gain my appetite back once I get to Fukoka. And then, yeah, we can do a a food vlog once I get there. But for now, I’m going to head back to my hotel, do some laundry, pack my bags, um get some rest, and tomorrow morning, going to jump on the train and head over to Fukoka. See you guys later. Peace out. Thanks again.
