Celebrity Millennium 12-Night Best of Japan & Nebuta Cruise ’25 – Part Five – Hiroshima & Miyajima
Welcome to the fifth video in our Celebrity Millennium Japanese cruise series. In this episode, we leave Kochi for Hiroshima and Miaima. This was one of the ports that we’ve been looking forward to the most. [Music] [Music] Good morning and welcome to Hiroshima. As the banner says, it is quart 9 in the morning. It’s already in the 30s. Of course, it is. Last night, we just had tea cost. Went a few drinks in the martini bar where there was a group of guys called bother for some reason. uh who then causes bother in the sky lounge as well. We removed uh so what their issue was cuz everyone else has been really chill and really nice. Plan today is go for a quick coffee and breakfast now. Then we are going to go to Mia Jama. It’s called famous for a shrine and lots and lots of friendly deer. Then we’re going to come back via the peace monument here in Hiroshima. And tomorrow we finally have a sea day. I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. This is a a stunning itinerary, but we are knackered now. It’s so much to see, so much to do, so hot, so hot to walk. And we are tired and we haven’t had a late night yet. Haven’t drank much yet. Uh, we have not made use our drinks package. We should not have bought a drinks package. We should have bought paid as we went, but having the best time. Legitimately the best holiday I’ve ever been on. Anyway, it’s enough me talking nonsense. Uh, let’s get some breakfast and we’ll catch you later. We originally planned to get the local ferry, but didn’t realize the terminal was so far away and ended up at the speedboat terminal instead. This is Hiroshima Port. We have just got ourselves some tickets for the speedboat over to Mia Jama Island. It’s more expensive, but it is very close to where the cruise shuttle drops you off. However, you would think buying tickets the most complicated process in the history of mankind. The way some people carrying on. It’s actually very very simple. If you listen to the very helpful people who are here trying to help you, uh, took all the 30 seconds to sort the tickets out. So, we’re going to get the speedboat to Mia, Jimmy, and then we are going to get a different ferry back to the Peace Memorial. Uh, there’s a very pleasant breeze coming off the sea this morning, which is helpful. We are not as hot as we have been so far. The speedboat was 2,400 yen each. one way or £5,400 each return. Uh 2,400 is give or take £12. So £12 each one way. The ferry, which is a lot further away, is £3 each. But you then got to get you got to fap on doing two changes uh of trams and buses. So, we figured cuz we’re against the time wise today cuz we got to get back on board by 5:30, but also we’ve got to go through customs today for some reason, we figured we’ll do the fast one. It was clear that the heat and intensive itinerary was starting to get to people as the boarding process was fractious to say the least, but more on that later. Once on board, we set off for a roughly 30inut journey to Miaima. We were waiting for your next trip to see your board again. Thank you so much for boarding today. Well, that was a very interesting embarcation onto the speedboard, shuttle board, whatever, whatever it is. Quite ironic considering we’re heading to the peace park today. There was various people kicking off kicking off because there’s only so many seats on each boat and certain people don’t understand the concept of queuing and we’re just pushing to the front uh and causing bother equally. Sorry. You saying please pay attention to the wild deer. They might try to eat your belongings. Oh, okay. Awesome. Likewise, uh people don’t understand you can only put so many people on a boat at any one time and we’re incredibly incredibly helpful uh people at fport were getting almost shoved around by various people which is just disgusting. No one to give tourists a bad name. Anyhow, time for a car sweat. And here we have the first of our deer. Lo and behold. Hello. Hello. Look. Miaima is a sacred island in Hiroshima Bay that is famous for its floating its Kushima gate. Apparently, it’s about a 1 km walk from the ferry terminal area to the famous shrine. But got say the whole town was beautiful. What an amazing place to paddle board. That’ be in the water straight away obviously, but what an amazing place. What an amazing way to say the shrine. Paddle boarding. It is actually. Yeah, if you can paddle board the bit to go right up obviously. Well, when the tide’s the right way around, you can actually um walk through it. Walk through it. Yeah. It’s obviously going to be later on, isn’t it? Yeah. I like it with the water, actually. It is quite possibly the most beautiful place I’ve ever been to in my life. It’s just the houses, the lamposts, the trees, coastline obviously. All the little shops are so so beautiful. Oh, I love it. Stunning. Keep saying stunning. There’s nothing else you can say. It is. I’ve run out of hyperbole and superlatives. It’s certainly more than nice. More than nice. Hey, it’s absolutely off the scale. This camera’s not the most flattering for me, but never mind. This is what we came to see anyway. It didn’t come to see my face. How was that for view? [Music] [Music] You like it? She proposing me. [Laughter] Thank you so much. I was more worried he’s going to eat my bag. Just fabulous, aren’t they? We visited in the morning and we were lucky enough to see the shrine with the tide in. It does look entirely different at low tide. This is kryptonite steps. Hopefully worth the climb. [Music] L is not feeling the best today. Just carrying on throughout like a pro. Time for the sun umbrella again. We’ve booked a ferry ticket back for 10 1 which gives us about 2 hours here. First world problems. H you come all the way to Hiroshima and Mia Jama to see the gord amongst other things. That’s a shame. And it’s covered in scaffolding. That’s like when we went to um New York and I wanted to see the flat iron building and it was covered in scaffolding. Yes, people say think of Japan. This is the sort of thing you think of beautiful houses and then luscious mountains in the background and a little garage. Yeah. A fire fire station. Oh, fire station. Japanese fire station. So, we to Mommy Gian Mommy Giani Park up here. Come all this way to this beautiful part of the world and we are in a shop. I am looking for a bookmark, you idiot. Looking for bookmarks and clearly wooden spoons are a thing. Wooden spoons are pretty. That’s a booby prize back in England. a wooden spoon. Not here in Japan. We are in Sasaki Yiko’s souvenir shop. This is Omiata Park, I think it’s called. The lizard dude. Oh, Peter’s a nice bridge and everything here. Wow. Keep saying wow. Huh. This is not the nice cruise. This is the wow cruise. And again, you know, just to add to it, there’s a deer. Having a little chill next to a little stream. In fact, there’s two. So, have a little chill next to the stream cuz it’s cool and there’s water for them to drink. Yeah. Peaceful fun as well. These are the clever deer. [Music] That other one was a baby one cuz had a little tiny little antlers. Antlers starting to come. Completely redundant. But everywhere you turn. Everywhere you turn, there is something beautiful. Even the restrooms are beautiful. Not inside, but outside. Yeah, Lisa has been convinced herself there’s going to be a tsunami for some reason. Clearly, there’s not. So, this is like Darth Vader to walk out or something. [Music] at high tide get transported through the shrine gates. Amazing. Very typical given what’s happening in the news today. Be aware of tsunami. We are 2 m above sea level and there is a exc area 200 m in this direction. [Music] [Music] So what’s today’s date, Lisa? The 30th. 30th of July. Everyone’s panicking back at home because there’s been an earthquake in east of Russia in Russia and it’s causing tsunamis. However, yeah, east Russia east 8 point something eastern Russia but I think but we appear absolutely safe and I think not allies are created equal. So there’s absolutely no concern any of the locals and we’ve heard nothing. So, I’m guessing perfectly safe. But again, we were in Japan when there was a tsunami. Hopefully, this is as exciting as it gets. This is lunch uh mia jama style. The car is set. Sweet just for a change. Egg sandwiches. Lisa’s got a rice ball. We sat now waiting to get our boat to over to the peace memorial peace park place. [Music] It was a longer journey by board into Hiroshima. And with Lisa starting to grow more and more concerned about a potential tsunami, we opted for a quick visit to the Atomic Dome and Peace Park. This was a shame because Hiroshima looked beautiful and we would have loved to have seen and be able to explore a lot more. [Music] So, now we’ve moved to Hiroshima Peace Park and the Atomic Dome. Again, strange really strange strange place. Strange fate. Just the enormity of what happened here, obviously. Yeah. Everything’s so modern except obviously this part. Actually a beautiful setting. We’re up against it timewise now. Lisa is on tsunami watch. So we’re rushing back to the ship just in case. Just in case. I’m going to head back. Amazingly. [Music] There’s still the odd blossom on the tree. Tiny little bits of blossom there. And this is the atomic dorm. [Music] Nearby was the peace watch clock tower that was built to resemble an atomic bomb test site. [Music] The atomic dome was the only structure left standing at the center of where the atomic bomb was dropped on August the 6th, 1945. We visited very close to the 80th anniversary. This whole area was a beautiful and somber stop on our itinerary. The news from home regarding potential tsunami was getting more and more alarming. So we decided to head back to the ship earlier than planned just in case. So real times watching BBC news reporting on tsunamis and evacuations whilst on the cruise ship in Japan. However, so far absolutely no impact. Uh no concern at all from the crew. Uh the only thing it’s impacted is we did make sure we got back from Hiroshima a little bit earlier than he perhaps would have otherwise. But all good so far. Farewell. Another fabulous amazing port. Obviously had the excitement of the tsunami warnings. Captain eventually came on and pretty much said that not to worry about. We were well we are about 7 hours in land. We’re in a sheltered part of Japan. So nothing to worry about whilst there will be further increased wave activity I suppose. Uh because we’ll take another 7 hours. We’re not going to not get into the open ocean until midnight about which time it’s been a full almost a full 24 hours since the earthquake which we didn’t even feel. It was like 8:30 local time didn’t even feel it. So despite being a massive earthquake didn’t feel it. So as much as the BBC and the news channels are delightfully filling their day nothing to report really is there much you do about nothing. We flew past the peace memorial. Didn’t see a great deal for obvious reasons, but bit don’t expect that respectful do that sort of stuff. So went there, paid our respects. Got back on the ship just to make sure we were back in there was no no issues, no concerns. That tango contain been there all day. Mhm. Yeah. I wonder if they’ve just sort of Okay, we’ll move here for now. Just make sure there is no risk. The outy ferry from Jaws. That’s a bit choppy if it goes over our way. It’s passing by quite quick close to us. [Music] I’ll keep putting the camera away and then rushing back to get it again cuz there’s some more even more stunning scenery coming past this the our cabin and we thought nowhere was good. Yeah, this is which by the way it is. This is stunning. What? This is beautiful. exhausted. We had another early night which is very unlike us. Good morning. It is our first sea day. I think it’s safe to say the entire passenger contingency are delighted. I think everyone is just worn out uh from all the places we’ve been. So we are currently sailing around the very bottom of Japan. We will have China on our left hand side and we are heading up towards Busousan in South Korea. Uh the plan today is currently about 8:30 in the morning. Just going to try and relax, recharge our batteries a little. Uh Lisa is still not feeling great. Uh going to go and get some breakfast in the buffet cuz the mid dining room finishes I think 8:30 which is very early. We headed to the Elbachio coffee shop. What we had hoped will be a quiet and relaxed breakfast. [Music] I’ll explain the reason for this face later. Quick wizard on the shops with Lisa, isn’t it? That’s a man crash. That’s lovely. It’s a man crash. What’s this inch of gold all about? See, on every ship, it just looks like cheap tat. What’s that all about? So, the reason for the face sat in the coffee shop, picked a nice quiet seat. No bother, no bother, no bother. when unfortunately an annoying teenager sat down uh and started FaceTiming her friend at full volume and her friend was going, “What the f? What the f?” every 3 seconds. Really irritating, really disrespectful. Peter’s just a grumpy old man ignoring. Come on, Peter. Get out. Getled off. Right. So, I’ve just beused the staff in uh Cafe Elbachio. backio. Lisa is still not feeling very well. So, I’ve gone and made her a hot toddy with the best best I could find on board. So, there’s a chamomile citrus tea cuz I don’t do lemon tea. Honey, and whiskey. Sounds absolutely disgusting. With a bit of brown sugar thrown in. I won’t drink it. It will cure you. It won’t. If you’re full of cold, you’re not feeling great. What you want is a hot toddy. You really don’t. You do. Question is, can she drink it? No, I hope. It will make you feel better. As expected, not much going on today. Got a very lazy seed here. It’s been very much needed though. A lot of people are the same thing. A lot of people out on deck and lot of heat. Be few lobsters this evening. I think not just in Sonic. [Music] In our next video, we head to Busousan in South Korea and enjoy another sea day where a lovely Canadian family attempted a bar crawl with Peter. See how that one ended up. [Music] Thanks for watching. Please comment, like, and subscribe. See you next time.
