As a child I would regularly eat these sour plum candy that were sweetened with barley malt instead of sugar. They had a sour burnt flavor that I came to love. On and off over the past 10+ years I have had cravings for them but have been unable to find them available online (or in any stores for that matter).
I believe the company that made them may have been called Meitan. There is a Meitan Plum Extract Candy page on Open Food Facts with a picture of how the package may have looked like.
Would love to know if anyone knows if this product is still made anywhere in Japan and if so, if there is some way to get it shipped to the US (I'm sure it would be costly, it's fine if I can actually relive this part of my childhood).
