Japan has been experiencing an increasing number of bear attacks on humans across the country.

A woman in her 70s died of injuries in a suspected attack on Friday after she was found on a mountain in Kurihara City, Miyagi Prefecture.

Police believe the woman was attacked by a bear after seeing that she sustained injuries to her neck. She was with three others picking mushrooms. Another woman from the group remains missing. She is also in her 70s.

Police and members of a local hunting association have set up bear traps near the site of the attack as the search for the missing woman continues.

In Otaru City, Hokkaido, two hunters were attacked on Saturday by a brown bear which had got caught in a deer trap.

Police say the two men have been treated at a hospital and are able to talk.

The hunters, in their 60s and 70s, told police that the bear broke free from the trap and attacked them.
