Here’s the entire statement made to Nintendo’s corporate Twitter account:

Contrary to recent discussions on the internet, Nintendo has not had any contact with the Japanese government about generative AI. Whether generative AI is involved or not, we will continue to take necessary actions against infringement of our intellectual property rights.

The Internet reaction to seeing countless Nintendo properties appearing in AI-generated videos made with the new Sora 2 app from OpenAI opened to door to speculation that Nintendo’s legal ninjas being deployed. While it is not a stretch to assume that the historically litigious video game company would take such measures, today’s statement refutes claims spread on social media and some news outlets this weekend.

Many other Nintendo-focused publications ran with the story this weekend based on a rumor spread by a Japanese politician. Keep it locked on Shacknews for Nintendo news stories that are actually vetted with factual information.

The AI space continues to be an unregulated mess, so we can’t blame anyone for wishfully thinking that Nintendo may be one of the intellectual property owners to stand up to the blatant copyright infringement currently going on in the emerging technology sector.
