Exploring a new city on foot is one of the best ways to get to know your destination—but certain cities are a lot easier to navigate as a pedestrian than others.

New research from Compare the Market analyzed a total of 90 cities worldwide on their safety score and found the following destinations ranked the highest in terms of things like car-free places, the percentage of residents who commute on foot and overall safety.

Here are the safest cities for pedestrians, according to the research:

Dubai

Although Dubai isn’t necessarily known for walkability, the city still earned top spot as the world’s safest for pedestrians. It earned an impressive composite safety score of 83.89 and is known for its overall security and well-maintained public spaces.

Zagreb

The Croatian city of Zagreb earned the second spot thanks to its composite score of 78.51. The city is one of the best in Europe for taking a leisurely stroll, with plenty of pedestrian-only walking areas.

Quebec City

The only Canadian city on the list, Quebec City earns third place with a composite safety score of 77.58. The city is packed with cobblestoned pedestrian streets and boardwalks, making it another excellent spot to explore on foot.

Singapore

Singapore is the highest-ranking Asian city on the list with a composite score of 77.36, just underneath Quebec City. Singapore is well-known for its overall safety and security, whether or not you’re traveling on foot.

Zurich

The next European city on the list is Zurich with a composite safety score of 76.88. The Swiss city is easy to navigate on foot and is also considered very safe and secure overall.

Krakow

Krakow in Poland earns the next spot with a composite score of 75.43. The city boasts plenty of pedestrian-friendly walking spaces, which is very welcomed not just by tourists exploring on foot but also by locals.

Prague

The capital of Czechia earns seventh place with a composite score of 75.39—just underneath Krakow. Prague is known for its beautiful architecture, and the pedestrian safety level makes it easy for tourists to get around while taking in the sights.

Seoul

The second Asian city on the list, Seoul earns the eighth overall spot with a composite score of 75.33. Despite being a highly populated and bustling city, crosswalks are safe, and exploring on foot (and by public transit) is easy.

Tokyo

It might come as a surprise to see a megacity like Tokyo make the list—but the capital of Japan is known for its pedestrian safety as well as its comprehensive public transportation. The city boasts a composite safety score of 75.29.

Warsaw

Rounding out the top 10 is Warsaw. The capital of Poland earned a composite score of 74.65, making it a great option for travelers looking explore the rich history of the city on two feet.
