TOKYO: The number of visitors at the Osaka-Kansai Expo has surpassed 25 million, the organizers announced on Tuesday.

However, that figure includes more than 3 million visitors with passes. The actual number of tickets sold as of September 26 was 22,019,387.

TAKASHINA Jun, the Deputy Secretary General of the Japan Association for the 2025 World Expo, said the 1.69 million visitors who visited last week at an average of 242,000 a day set a new weekly high for the second consecutive week.

A new single-day attendance record was set on September 22 with 247,000 visitors.

East Africa will feature strongly in this week’s events, with national days for Ethiopia, Djibouti, and Somalia. Poland and the Solomon Islands will also have national day events.

In the first week of October, visitors will be able to see an Advanced Air Mobility demonstration featuring demonstration flights of the Joby S4 eVTOL (vertical takeoff and landing) “flying car.”

Meanwhile, on October 6, a signing ceremony will take place at the Expo for a Memorandum of Understanding of International Collaboration on Coral Conservation between the Philippines and Japan.
