We started our journey from the Nagoya station. We boarded the Shinkansen bullet train. The ride to Kyoto takes only about 35 minutes The train runs at speeds of up to 285 km/h Along the way, we enjoyed beautiful countryside views We passed through Shiga Prefecture before reaching Kyoto Finally, we arrived at Kyoto Station – welcome to the ancient capital! Next, we took a bus from Kyoto Station to Yasaka Shrine We arrived at the Yasaka shrine Yasaka Shrine is one of Kyoto’s most famous Shinto shrines It was founded over 1,350 years ago, in the year 656 The shrine is dedicated to the gods of prosperity, health, and protection It is especially famous for the Gion Matsuri, one of Japan’s biggest festivals Many people visit here to pray for good fortune and safe health Next, we walked to Kenninji Temple, one of the oldest Zen temples in Kyoto Kenninji was founded in 1202 by the monk Eisai, who introduced Zen Buddhism to Japan Eisai also brought tea seeds from China, helping start Japan’s tea culture Kenninji is the head temple of the Rinzai sect of Zen Buddhism in Kyoto The temple is known for its peaceful Zen gardens, perfect for quiet reflection Next, we walked to Sannenzaka, one of Kyoto’s most famous historic streets This stone-paved slope is over 400 years old, built in the early Edo period Along the way, we saw craftsmen making fresh mochi – soft rice cakes It was amazing to watch the traditional pounding of mochi, a practice that goes back centuries Sannenzaka means ‘Three-Year Slope’ – legend says if you fall here, you’ll have bad luck within three years Today, it’s a preserved street lined with traditional wooden shops and teahouses Next, we escaped the touristy crowds and ventured into nature Our first stop was the Turtle Stepping Stones, a peaceful riverside path People cross the river by hopping on these stones Next, we visited Kawai Shrine It’s a small shrine hidden in the trees, famous for praying for beauty and personal growth There were colorful ema (wooden prayer plaques) hanging around the shrine Then, we discovered the Rugby Shrine It’s a small shrine dedicated to rugby players and fans. Very unique! People come here to pray for strength, teamwork, and success in sports Finally, we walked to Shimogamo Shrine This is one of Kyoto’s oldest shrines, surrounded by a sacred forest After Shimogamo Shrine, we took the train to Nara The train journey from Kyoto to Nara is very scenic The sun was setting as we arrived Even so, there were plenty of deer around The deer walked freely in the park, and people were feeding them It was fun to see so many deer up close We spent the night in Nara Early the next day, we left Nara and took the train to Osaka Osaka is Japan’s third-largest city, known for its food, entertainment, and lively atmosphere Our first stop was Dotonbori, famous for its bright neon signs and bustling streets These covered shopping arcades are full of clothes, souvenirs, and local snacks We saw the iconic Glico Running Man sign. This is a must-see landmark for visitors Next, we walked through the Shinsaibashi shopping streets After that, we visited Kuromon Market, known as ‘Osaka’s Kitchen’ Here, you can find fresh seafood, fruits, and traditional Japanese snacks We tried some local street food and enjoyed the lively market atmosphere We ended our Osaka trip in the evening and took the train back to Nagoya
