Top 5 Places in Hakodate – Hokkaido Japan
[Music] Hakodata is one of the most popular cities in Hokkaido and almost everyone makes a stop here. Let me tell you about the top five places to visit in Hakodate. It includes an amazing view of the full city, a star- shaped Fort which reminds me of Copag and the busy street to hang out with your friends. The best place to visit Nakodata is the Mount Hakodata observatory including the road up there with the Mount Hakodata roadway. It is located very close to the city and the cable car alone is a great experience. The city has a great view to offer. We went up in the evening to enjoy the sunset. On the right and left, you can see the beautiful nature and in front of you is the city. At night, the city lights curve along the bay like a glittering necklace. The round trip up there costs just $12 and is therefore our top place in Nakodata. Number two is Hakodata’s iconic star-shaped fort called Gukakut. I was very surprised to see it here because I saw an identical fort in Cophagen which was called Castell. Goyukaku was built in the 19th century when Japan was opening up to the world and experimenting with the western style fort designs. In spring about 1,600 cherry trees bloom all around the mode and it becomes one of the most beautiful Sakura viewing spots in the country. I was not that lucky to see the cherry trees, but it was still a great walk there. For 500 yen, you can also go inside the mega straits office, which is located in the center of the fort. For our third stop, we have the tower directly next to our last place, Coyukaku Tower. The observation deck is about 1,000 m tall, and from up there, you get a perfect view of the fort, surrounded by its white moat. There are this place inside about the battle of Hakodate which was the last stand of the Tokugawa Shugunate after the maji restoration. It greatly displays the post samurai time. The entrance fee is 1,200 yen, so around $8. If you’re one of the brave ones, you can also enjoy a glass floor inside the tower. Next up for number four is Cape Tachimachi. A really scenic lookout just a short drive from the city center. The cliffs here drop straight into the ocean and on the clear day you can actually see across the sugary straight to our Muri on the other side. It’s a place locals love for a quiet walk or just to clear their heads and the sound of the waves crashing against the rocks makes it feel so peaceful. There’s even a small memorial here for famous Japanese poor Ishikawa Takuboku who used to come here and reflect at the spot. If you want something more rocked and natural compared to the citysides, this is the place to be. [Music] For our number five, I chose Hakodata station with the connected national route 278. When I visit a new place, I want to find the busy street with all the cool restaurants, bars, and shops the locals like to visit. I found that in the National Route 278, which ends at the Hakodate station. At the end of your day in Hakodate, you should come here and walk around in the evening. It is packed with people. you feel very safe and just want to go into all of the coollooking bars. While walking the roads, you will also find some cool looking sculptures of kids with some animals. Before finishing the video, I want to recommend you the weirdest food place I saw anywhere in Hakodate. I’m talking about the hamburger restaurant Lucky Pirate. As soon as I mentioned Hakodate, everyone told me to go there for lunch. And yes, I don’t know how to pronounce the second word, period. I have to say it was not the best burger I had, but it was for sure the weirdest burger place I went to. I took the best seller, the Chinese chicken burger, and the menu cost just $7. They even put some curry sauce on the fries. I was not crazy fond of them, but I would still recommend it to everyone else. You should check it out for yourself. Do you have a favorite place in Japan you would like to see a video about? Write it in the comments and I promise to make my second next video about it. Just for the first personal comments.
