Pacific League: Orix 10-5 Rakuten (28th, Kyocera Dome Osaka)
Orix ‘s Miyagi has now secured his seventh win, tying his record from last season, and has set a new goal. “The two teams above us are strong. Everyone is playing with that mindset. We need to come together as one, determined not to lose.” Starting the night after advancing to the CS for the first time in two years, Miyagi runs one run in five innings. Miyagi intends to use the energy he has left to overcome the current third-place finish and become the best team in Japan.
He was critical of himself, saying, “I’ve only been pitching around 143 innings (of the required innings pitched),” but he has reached his career-long mark of 148 1/3 innings, matching his 11 wins in 2022. He plans to make a practice appearance in the season’s final game against Rakuten on October 5th (Rakuten Mobile), before heading to the first stage of the CS (ESCON) against Nippon-Ham starting on the 11th. Both Miyagi and the team have entered full-scale CS mode.
The team has now secured a third consecutive win over Rakuten, and a winning record in the regular season. “We’ll take each game without letting our guard down,” said manager Kishida, who is looking ahead to the remaining five games. He plans to get players like Iwasaki and Machado, who are part of the winning combination, in shape, and is expected to call up high school graduate rookie Yamaguchi and others from the farm team. The CS will be a chance for the team to vent their frustration at not being able to break into the top two teams, Softbank and Nippon-Ham. Orix has the strength to fight boldly. (Osada Toru)
