Nippon-Ham Fighters manager Tsuyoshi Shinjo updated his Instagram story to congratulate Softbank manager Kokubo on their consecutive championships. “It’s so frustrating and difficult to put into words, but I’d like to sincerely congratulate Manager Kokubo. You were really strong, but the gap in ability is definitely narrowing,” he wrote.
After the game, he praised Tatsuya for pitching his first professional shutout game, and left the stadium without mentioning Softbank ‘s consecutive championships, but he did reveal his feelings in his own words.
In his fourth year in charge this season, the team took the lead on May 3rd, becoming the sole leader for the first time in 16 years since 2009. However, after losing the lead to Softbank on July 29th, the team lost momentum and fell short of winning the league championship for the first time in nine years.
