Osaka, September 25 (QNA) – The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MECC) concluded its participation in the State of Qatar’s pavilion at Expo 2025, held in the city of Osaka, Japan, from April 13 to October 13. The MECC highlighted the diversity and unique biodiversity of Qatar’s environment, in addition to the country’s position as a leading model in environmental protection and sustainability.
In a statement on Thursday, the MECC said that during its participation, it presented a series of awareness videos in three languages (Arabic, English, and Japanese) that addressed most prominent national initiatives for preserving environment and combating climate change. These included a short film on the importance of mangroves and their role in ecological balance and combating coastal erosion, as well as a special presentation on Al Reem Reserve and the Environmental Monitoring and Inspection Department.
The MECC also used another video to introduce Qatar Sustainability Portal, highlighting the country’s efforts to involve various sectors in adopting responsible practices that are consistent with the National Environment and Climate Change Strategy.
The participation included distribution of souvenirs inspired by Qatari environment. These included models and designs inspired by natural landmarks and local creatures such as Ras Abrouq, whale sharks, sea turtles, and al-Qataf plant, which added an interactive element that attracted visitors and introduced them to the Qatari environment in an innovative way.
Awareness expert at the ministry, Salma Al Kuwari, confirmed that the participation aimed to highlight Qatar’s efforts in planting and developing mangroves to preserve ecological balance and reduce climate change. She stressed the importance of this presence in confirming the state’s commitment to global environmental issues and the preservation of natural resources for future generations.
For his part, Director of the State of Qatar’s pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, Faisal Al Ibrahim explained that Qatar’s participation constituted an interactive platform to introduce visitors to the environmental diversity and national efforts to confront climate change, stressing Qatar’s keenness to convey its message based on contributing to building a more sustainable future in line with Qatar National Vision 2030.
The State of Qatar’s pavilion is being held under the slogan “From the Coastline, We Progress.” It is divided into “Sea” and “Land” zones, taking visitors on an interactive journey that tells the story of the country’s development from a cohesive coastal community to a modern state that is a leader in sustainable development.
The pavilion was designed by Japanese architect Kengo Kuma, who drew inspiration for his design from the sails of traditional Qatari dhows and the Japanese “Kigumi” wooden construction technique, to embody the harmony between the two cultures.
Qatar’s participation in Expo 2025 Osaka in Japan confirms its commitment to promoting cultural cooperation and innovation, and highlighting its future vision based on a balance between authenticity and progress. (QNA)
