Second-round action continues on Day 4 of the WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing, featuring 16 exciting matches. This article features #5 seed Jessica Pegula and former champion Naomi Osaka. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for every match on the slate. But which players will advance to the next round?
WTA Beijing Day 4 Predictions
Liudmila Samsonova vs Lois Boisson
Head-to-Head: first meeting
Liudmila Samsonova will play for the first time since the US Open and must be ready for a tough battle. Samsonova is a former finalist at this event and can cause some damage if she finds her level. Lois Boisson came through a tough first-round match and got her first win at this tournament. She will have to increase her level significantly to trouble Samsonova, and I think she will fall short this time.
Prediction: Samsonova in 3
Emma Navarro vs Elena-Gabriela Ruse
Head-to-Head: Navarro 1-0 Ruse
Emma Navarro hasn’t played to her potential since Wimbledon and needs a deep run to get her confidence back. She is looking for her first win at this tournament and has a favorable opener against Elena-Gabriela Ruse, who ended her seven-match losing streak in the first round. It was a clinical performance from Ruse, but Navarro will be a much tougher challenge. Ruse doesn’t have the weapons to hit through Navaro on these slow courts.
Prediction: Navarro in 2

Jessica Pegula vs Ajla Tomljanovic
Head-to-Head: Pegula 3-0 Tomljanovic
#5 seed Jessica Pegula had a bad Billie Jean King Cup, according to her standards, and her record in this tournament isn’t great either. However, she has a great record against her opponent, Ajla Tomljanovic, who ended her three-match losing streak in the first round against Yulia Starodubtseva. These are not ideal conditions for either of these players, particularly Tomljanovic, who enjoys fast-paced conditions. I can still see her winning a set, but Pegula should advance.
Prediction: Pegula in 3
Naomi Osaka vs Aliaksandra Sasnovich
Head-to-Head: Osaka 4-0 Sasnovich
It was an incredible North American hard-court swing for Naomi Osaka, and she is back inside the Top 20 for the first time since 2022. She will be pushing for a Top 10 finish before the season ends, and that looks likely if she can remain consistent. Aliaksandra Sasnovich has won just one set in four matches against Osaka and doesn’t have the tools to trouble the Japanese star. It will take a disastrous performance from Osaka to lose this match.
Prediction: Osaka in 2
