Seeing Mount Fuji is pretty high on most traveller’s bucket lists, in no small part thanks to Hokusai’s world-famous Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji print series.
And if you’re looking to make that 37, we have good news, as a new viewing spot has just opened at Izu Panorama Park.
Located on Mount Katsuragi on Shizuoka’s Izu Peninsula, the Aqua Ring terrace is encircled by reflective pools. The new attraction joins other viewing spots at the park including the Forest Walk and Grand Loop trails, both of which opened in 2024.
Izu Panorama Park, which first opened in 1992, is best known for its 1,800 metre gondola ropeway that guests use to reach the summit. The park is also home to an outdoor foot spa, a coffee shop and a restaurant – all with a side of Mount Fuji views.
The news comes as Japan gears up for autumn which will see the country covered in swathes of red maple trees and yellow ginkgo trees with the changing of the seasons.
Earlier this month, the Japan Meteorological Corporation released its first autumn foliage coverage. This year, the maple trees are set to turn red around the Tokyo area around 30 November, while the ginkgo trees turning yellow around 29 November.
