Nippon-Ham of Nao Miyanishi pitcher became the fourth person in history to reach a total of 900 plate appearances. The previous three to achieve this feat were Hitonori Iwase (1002), Tetsuya Yoneda (949), and Shoichi Kaneda (944). He is now on par with the legends.
He came on in the 5th inning with one out and runners on first and second. He went up to mound with Souzan in left. Soyama was given full count to Walk with one out bases loaded. He allowed a left sacrifice fly to Franco, who was substituted and got off mound.
He was greeted by his teammates in front of the bench, and Manager Shinjo handed him a board commemorating his 900th appearance, after which he bowed deeply to the applauding stands.
Manager Shinjo concluded the winning game by saying, “I want him to make his 900th appearance at ESCON. At the end,” aiming to add a flourish to his achievement, but in the game against Lotte on the 21st (ESCON), he was preparing to pitch, but with one out and a runner on first in the ninth inning, Sugiura grounded out to the pitcher for double play play, ending the game. The manager said with a wry smile, “It’s not going to work out.”
This was the final game of the season for ESCON. Although he was behind, he reached a milestone by pitching in his usual position.
