A big, new theme park called Junglia opened in Okinawa, Japan, in July.

In Yambaru forest, on the chain of islands in Japan’s southernmost prefecture, there are 22 family-friendly attractions, 15 dining spots (using lots of local ingredients), souvenir stores, and a spa.

The development also includes accommodation.

The park covers 60ha and is about 1½ hours by car from Naha Airport.

IN THE JUNGLIA Dinosaur Safari

There are 20 dinosaurs, and the Junglia team recommends allowing 17 minutes to see them — from herbivores to a ferocious tyrannosaurus rex on the attack.

Infinity Terrace

At the Entrance Village, with its restaurants and stores, this open-air terrace is the highest point of the park. It overlooks the whole of Junglia.

Horizon Balloon

This giant (tethered) balloon rises to give a view of the jungle. The ride takes 10 minutes.

Spa Junglia

There is an infinity bath with a big view, a calcium bath, and a sauna. There are lots of healing experiences to choose from, including a cave bath and natural hot spring.

Finding Dinosaurs

Junglia visitors can find seven more endearing dinosaurs here. The mission is to go into the jungle to find the lost baby dinosaur — through tunnel-like overgrown trees, across a swaying suspension bridge, and driving a tram into a dark cave.

Panorama Dining

Full-length glass windows give a panoramic view of Yambaru while gourmet dishes celebrating Okinawan produce are served.

Sky Phoenix

A high-speed zipline over the tropical forest.
