birthplace of karate 🥋🦶

Did you know that karate is not actually from Japan? It originated from the Rikuyu Kingdom, which is modernday Okinawa. There are now different styles of karate, but they all share the same core techniques: strikes, kicks, blocks, and stances. The foundation of karate blended indigenous Okinowan hand fighting with widecreen kung fu. In the 20th century, Inkinowan master introduced karate to mainland Japan, systemizing it through ranking belts, choreographed drills, and competitions. Traditional Okino and karate trained in shorts or trousers without a short but later adopted Japan’s judo uniform and colored belt system. What I like most about karate aren’t the punches and kicks, but how it trains the mind and cultivates internal energy through discipline and respect. Students are expected to help maintain the dojo. At the end of a karate class I took in Okinawa, we all wipe down the mats with a wet cloth. If you’re interested in any kind of martial arts, it’s never too late to start training.

my favorite type of martial arts that i’ve tried so far #okinawa #japantravel #karate

  1. As someone who studied traditional Okinawan Gojo Ryu karate for years, it is so nice to see you train! People seem to forget it's origins, thank you for being so respectful!

  2. I was trained in Karate Kenpo and I really liked it I think I want to keep going but I feel shy

The sedan version of the 2017 Honda Civic. They’re common every where else but they’re really rare in Japan, so they’re kinda rare like unicorns.
