No music Just the real city sounds Perfect for focus and relaxation Yokohama only 30 minutes from central Tokyo But the pace here is slower and more relaxed More than 3.7 million people live in Yokohama The city lies right on the shore of Tokyo Bay Did you know Yokohama often appears in movies and anime? You’ll also catch glimpses of the city in films like Shoplifters And in anime too: Studio Ghibli’s from Up on Poppy Hill is actually set right here Evangelion, Steins;Gate, and Banana Fish they all sneak in scenes around Yokohama No wonder people call it Japan’s romantic seaside backdrop So let’s take a look at what makes Yokohama such an inspiration for filmmakers and anime creators Walk Route | Overview Map Japan Walking Tour START 🎥 みなとみらい駅 (Minato Mirai Station) The name Minato Mirai means “Port of the Future.” Construction began in the 1980s, and today it’s the symbol of modern Yokohama. We begin our walk at Minato Mirai Station (みなとみらい駅) Can you feel it? The vibe here is so different from Tokyo calmer, breezier, more open That giant Ferris wheel ahead is Cosmo Clock 21 When it opened in 1989, it was the tallest in the world! 112.5 meters high — pretty crazy for its time, right? The wheel is not only an amusement ride, but also the largest clock in the world, We’ll see him soon! Right now we’re heading to Cosmo World Yokohama Cosmo World, a free-entry amusement park where you only pay for rides This side street is surprisingly calm… hard to believe we’re still in the heart of Minato Mirai Cosmo clock 21 Cosmo Clock 21 follows us like a giant landmark, visible from almost every point of the bay Carnival street is part of Yokohama Cosmo World Unlike big theme parks, Cosmo World is free-entry Yokohama Cosmo World | amusement park Kids explore a maze, collect game cards, and step into a fantasy forest straight out of an anime Attraction ディスクオー」(Disk-O) Some rides here look intense! The Disk-O spins you sideways while tilting — and it’s right in the middle of a business district Sea Bass Pier Bridge | Yokohama Waterfront Promenade it leads to the Yokohama waterfront promenade, where you can catch the Sea Bass water bus cruising across the bay since 1981. The music, the lights, the slow spin — so nostalgic Yokohama Cosmo World 🎡 | Doll-like Amusement Park Cosmo World feels like stepping into a doll’s world, with miniature rides against the backdrop of skyscrapers Japanese Fashion 👘 Girl in Stylish Dress Back to Gururi Mori Daibōken (ぐるり森大冒険) kids love it because it feels like stepping into a fantasy forest adventure. Bright colors and playful sounds create pure amusement park ambience And here we are, back on the street again This walkway runs along the Ōoka River, linking Cosmo World with the Red Brick Warehouse (Akarenga) area. It’s one of the most scenic city walks in Yokohama Cosmo Clock 21 | Giant Ferris Wheel Here you can see two icons together: the Cosmo Clock 21 and the Vanish Coaster, a roller coaster that dives dramatically into water tunnels Japanese Schoolgirls 👗 | City Life Yokohama World Porters 🛍️ Shopping Mall This is Yokohama World Porters — a huge shopping and entertainment mall opened in 1999, offering more than 200 shops, restaurants, and a cinema Inside World Porters you’ll find everything from Japanese street fashion boutiques to international cafés it’s a favorite stop for both locals and tourists Stepping outside World Porters, you’re back in the futuristic Minato Mirai skyline glass towers glowing over the bay I like how Yokohama has these skywalks elevated walkways where you can cross between buildings without worrying about traffic. A perfect example of a pedestrian-friendly city walk Kids are playing tag — so nostalgic!
