TOKYO, Japan — Jamaica’s women earned silver in the 4x400m on the final day of the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo in Sunday.
The team of Dejanae Oakley, Stacey Ann Williams, Andrenette Knight and Nickisha Pryce clocked 3:19.25, finishing behind the USA which won in a championship record of 3:16.61.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone anchored the Americans to a dominant victory for her second gold of the competition.
The Netherlands took bronze in 3:20.18, with Femke Bol, fresh from retaning her 400m hurdles crown and known for her fast finishing speed, on the anchor leg.
In the meantime, Jamaica finished out of the medals in seventh in the men’s 4x400m, the team of Delano Kennedy, Jevaughn Powell, Jasauna Dennis and Rusheen McDonald clocking 3:03:46.
Botswana’s quartet of Lee Bhekempilo Eppie, Letsile Tebogo, Bayapo Ndori and the individual 400m world champion Busang Collen Kebinatshipi claimed a thrilling victory in the race.
Kebinatshipi ran an impressive anchor leg, stealing the win in the final metres after running down American Rai Benjamin, the 400m hurdles gold medallist.
Botswana timed 2:57.76 to top the podium, with the US foursome taking silver 0.07sec adrift.
World 400m record holder Wayde van Niekerk ran the third leg to help South Africa to bronze.
