Road Trip to Hokkaido – Day 5! Namahage Demon Gods, Dragonflies, & Windmills
Okay. Okay. Little Vic is awake. Good morning. Mom’s leaving to do laundry. It’s a beautiful day. And this is the place. It’s very peaceful. There are five. And there are windmills. I’ve seen their trumpets. They’re everywhere. There a few seagulls in the area. Very nice. Nice and peaceful. Very clean. This is the Saka Tanto Container Hotel. Very clean. Uh this is where people are brushing their teeth in the morning. Very quiet. They give you a card when you get into the room. Go ahead. There. There we go. And make sure little bit knows how to take a bath. That’s one. Our second cup shows are very nice. I just realized they have two showers. That’s cool. Toilet. Men’s toilet. Women’s toilet. Laundry. So, regarding amenities here, they have hangers. I think these are sleeping bags. Yeah, they feel like sleeping bags up here. They have a hammer. I don’t know what that’s for. I think I guess you can set something up. They got some sheets. Oh, yeah. That’s to make a sleeping bag. See, check it out. Uh, if it has been used, an additional fee will be incurred. Wow. Um, these are pads. These are like, you know, yoga pads. They have chairs. Extra chairs. And I don’t know what that’s a table. Oh, man. That’s heavy. That must be That must Oh, that’s a cot. That’s a cot. You can set up two cotss. Okay, cool. Um, we didn’t use them. Too late. We were too tired yesterday anyway. So, here’s our bed we squeezed in there. Table. I guess that must be two extra cotss, two extra chairs, two extra yoga pads for sleeping and food and sleeping bags. And that’s it. Oh, and a hammer. Yeah, air conditioning. Yes, this is for the rental TV. Maybe this is that’s for the lights. There is a projector you can rent. And we we passed by one of the um containers and they were like watching TV and we were excited. We thought we thought all the rooms had TVs. Well, I wasn’t excited, but Little Vick wasn’t excited. It was really windy last night. So, actually, unbeknownst to me, Yoko went out and closed the door. Right here, go show. That’s the door. That’s the door. And these these containers apparently were bought in America because it’s 9 It says on the side 9 ft 6 in, which it’s English. They have metric system here in Japan. So, they must have been bought in America. Pretty tall. Yeah. Cool. I think I’d like to buy some land and get some containers. Build a little I just noticed we’re on the we’re between the train tracks and the port that this explains how to close the outside doors on how to keep them open like that. I did see these bars uh in front of another container. Good morning guys. It’s little bit and Emily and Yoko and Victor and we are leaving the Sakatonto container um camp park container park it’s cool and we are heading towards Oga Peninsula or Oato maybe check out the windmills yes we are going to visit the Namahagi Museum and it’s got pretty good repahagis are kind of monsters kind They’re kind of good. Most so parents use them to scare children to be good every year. Exactly. Yeah. So, but you’ll see videos of people of little kids getting scared by these Namahagas. Um, and they’re pretty good. I’ve always wanted a Namahaget mask, but I’m pretty sure it’s out of my price. No way. Shaking her head. No. No. Okay. Maybe not. Maybe not. We’ll see. Maybe I’ll get a little statue. We’ll see. Cleaning up. I like watching people clean up. Where are we? This is some kind of park. Look at this. Jesus, look at all these logs. Beck and Emmy, look at this. You’ve never seen this in a gua. Doing some construction on the road. What’s uh one of one of the most amazing things about Japanese? Bless you. employment here is they hire people just to stand in the road and wave the flag. Like sometimes they have signs and I actually saw a stuffed balloon a balloon mat doing it which is pretty cool. And there actually not doing any construction. They’re just sitting there to make sure no one crashes into the stuff. And also cuz it’s only one one way. See? So we got three people working right now. [Music] What area again? Rice fields were as far as I can see. That’s a huge one. Look at that one. Here’s advertising. Jr. The whole coast is um littered with these windmills in the background. Way back there. We put the propeller on that. Urus energy. Wow. Factor areas down. That’s wild looking. Something out of Mad Max. Okay, here we are. Now you can see a bunch here. See, that’s a better view. That’s a lot. And they’re all huge now. Now you’ve seen how big those things are. That’s impressive. I wonder how much one costs. Google that. Cool. This one on the top on the right. It’s just like sitting there. Get to work, dude. Finally ending. Oh, there’s more. I thought I thought that was done, but there’s actually more back there. Look, even more. Goes on and on. Even more. Goes on and on. I’m really not kidding. It just stretches on and on and on. Look at that. [Music] Hag country. Look at this. Woo. Cool. Are we there? Is this a souvenir stand or something? [Music] You spent 500 yen trying to catch one of these. Should have just bought one. [Music] We just visited the Namahagi Museum or Nagahame Khan as it’s called and it was great. Definitely worth a visit. My family’s leaving me. Back to the car. What? What? What should we do for bear attacks? Ah, back. Back away slowly. Okay. If you look like you’re going to get attacked, then spray. What does that mean? Kuma, use kuma spray or don’t do that. Just explain it. Hide your protect your neck and lay on the ground. Oh, you guys are really noisy. So, we’re never going to meet a bear. Take your garbage home. [Music] Would you like to live there? [Music] Restaurant or hotel? [Music] What? [Music] What? Oh, hold on. Hold on. Ready? The sun is kind of That’s better. I can see your face. Okay, smile. Here we are on the coast north of uh Olga Peninsula. We’re almost at the top left corner of um the mainland of Japan. At which point we’ll have to turn right and head towards the ferry. I wonder what these um why people put these concrete blocks there. Are they used for something? Boats maybe in the old days. Lot of rocks around there. It’s like a good place to put concrete. I mean if you’re going to use it for a boat. [Music] What do you think of this place? Pretty cool, huh? You like it? Musk. He really likes it. I feel like I’m going to throw up. I don’t know how that’s good, but you can see all rows and rows of these uh what do they call what’s it called? Yoko food yoku hatuen windmills. Oh man, it just goes on and on as far as I can see. Look at that. Jesus Christ. You can’t believe the wind is strong enough to make them turn. No, the wind is strong. Little Victor thinks I can’t jump up on this step. Ready? Here’s one. Easy, right? Got two. Got one. Ready? Ready. That’s good. Ready? No. Not yet. [Music] [Music] We went bug hunting, but we couldn’t find any. Little victims were there looking for bugs, too. Some last we had a good experience in Hokkaido a couple years ago. We found a bunch of kabuto mushies um helmet beetles and back beetles around in the woods. But we don’t see anything this time. [Music] Honey, get that one. And uh sure, why not? It’s right. Pretend it’s a convenience store. Woo! 5%. How do you want to get this one? I don’t know. How do you drink it? After my uh after mentioning this to you guys the other day, I was going to buy one. So, I thought it was a protein bar, but actually, you checked the protein content. It’s only got 36% grams. 3.6 g. His other one has 10. I’ll get this one set. Why not try it? How about these? Try this one, too. This one has protein is one. One. Oh my god. Oh crap. And we’re at the convenience store. They’ve got this thing so you can see how tall someone is when the criminal is leaving. So big, if you rob the place, you’re like 150. Cool. Thank you. So we have some weird decoration like both pumpkins. We were passing an apple or shirt and apparently we just remember that Al Modi is famous for apples. I love apples. These are tiny. They’re not even not even ready yet. That’s what we saw on the bridge a few minutes ago. These lights there for snow. Those arrows are pointing down because you won’t if it snows, you won’t be able to see the road. This will tell you where the road is. That’s how bad it gets up here. And now I’m down. We’re 5 minutes from the ferry, but we’re way too early. So, got like two and a half hours to kill. What we can do, you’ll go at the ferry place, but it looks pretty empty. Uh, it leaves at 2:30 a.m. and it is now 10:30 and we can board 90 minutes before. We’re going to go ask to find out when we can actually get in. Look at what it says here. Joa, this is the cars that we’ll be boarding. Yo yakum. Look at the people already who’ve already gotten their who’ve already paid. That’s from this land. These are memb routinely do this. Um, first of all, check out this office. Is this an office? Looks like it’s ski lodge or something. Kid’s having fun running around. even though it’s way past their bedtime. Um, nobody, it doesn’t look like anyone’s in this one. Maybe it’s only open in the daytime. Information there. They got toilets over there. They have counter over here like an airport, but nobody’s behind the counter yet. Ah, there’s somebody. Fore! Foreign! Foreign! [Music] [Music] See this is Emily P. Emily pick Okay, we have 3 hours before the um boat. Can you open it for me? So, we’re going to have dinner in the car. Let’s see what this looks like. Let’s see if it Oh, this is a spam. What? I have to go. I'll watch this later.
6:52 this might be where they burn trash, they have a weird looking building in Osaka too for that.
I like the atmosphere of this video.
Looks like fun. (Except for that part 22:05 😂 that really does look traumatizing)
I've yet to do a road trip in Japan by car.
Btw, 6:20 JR East Energy Development is a subsidiary of JR East that develops renewable energy projects, including solar and wind power.
Another interesting vid, thank you for sharing. I never tire is seeing the beautiful scenery.
