Lloret de Mar | España WALKING TOUR 🇪🇸 ¿Paraíso mediterráneo o caos turístico? 🌊 LA VERDAD
👋 Hello everyone and welcome to Lloret de Mar! Today we’re going to explore its streets, beaches, and corners with stories that are sure to surprise you. 🌊 Get ready for an unforgettable walk along the Costa Brava, with views of the Mediterranean, local curiosities, and lots of fun anecdotes. 🏰 Do you see that castle on the rock? It’s not medieval, even if it looks like it. It was built in 1935 as the private residence of an art collector. Let’s walk together through this seafaring city, discovering its history, legends, and secrets that few tourists know. Lloret de Mar is not just beaches and parties; its roots go back to centuries of sailors, trade, and adventures at sea. Today we’re going to immerse ourselves in culture, architecture, gastronomy, and tradition, exploring everything that makes this Catalan gem special. 📍 Lloret de Mar is located on the Costa Brava, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, about 70 km north of Barcelona. 🌊 Its privileged location in the Mediterranean has given it a seafaring history and a perfect climate to enjoy the sun and sea almost all year round. 🗺️ The Costa Brava, where we are now, is characterized by its cliffs, hidden coves, and turquoise waters that attract tourists from all over the world. 📍Lloret Beach. 🏖️ Lloret de Mar has approximately 40,000 inhabitants, although in summer the population multiplies with visitors. ⛵ Here we are in front of the Tribute to the Sail, a monument that celebrates the seafaring tradition of Lloret de Mar. 🐟 The sail symbolizes the fishermen and navigators who, for centuries, sailed these Mediterranean waters. Lloret was an important port, and many sailors departed from here for America and the Caribbean, bringing back stories and riches. 🌴 This city combines fine sandy beaches with historic streets, squares, and modernist buildings that reflect its evolution. 🏔️ Although we are facing the sea, just a few kilometers away we find mountains and forests that contrast with the beach and offer hiking trails. We will be able to experience all this on our walk! ✨ 🏖️ This beach is approximately 1.2 kilometers long, perfect for walking, swimming, or simply relaxing under the Mediterranean sun. 🌍 Catalonia is a region with its own identity, language, and traditions that are reflected in every corner of Lloret and its popular culture. Our walk takes us mainly through the historic town center, but we will also visit promenades like this one and hidden coves. 🌞 The Mediterranean climate makes Lloret a perfect destination almost all year round, with warm summers and mild winters. 🌊 The Costa Brava gets its name from the “wild” and steep cliffs that characterize much of the Catalan coast. And we’ll see them later. 👀 🌿 We are on Passeig de Camprodon i Arrieta. It is one of the most emblematic streets to stroll and discover the daily life of Lloret de Mar. 🏛️ Some of the buildings we will see date back to the 19th century, reflecting the influence of Catalan Modernism and Mediterranean architecture. Modernism is an architectural style that arrived in Catalonia in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. 🌟 Lloret de Mar is not Barcelona, but it has beautiful examples of Modernist houses built by wealthy families who returned from America. 🏘️ This style is characterized by decorated facades, wrought iron, stained glass windows, and details that make each building unique. 🏖️ Tell me in the comments what you prefer: a quiet beach for reading or a crowded sea for socializing? What is your perfect beach plan? 👀 Which city are you watching us from today? We love knowing where you’re joining us from! We’re heading to the Canaletes Fountain, a place full of stories and curiosities. 💧 In Barcelona, there’s a fountain just like this one, and it doesn’t just give out water: it’s also famous for celebrating Barça victories! Although the custom originates in Barcelona, here in Lloret de Mar, fans also gather to celebrate. Now we move on to Plaça de la Vila, the historic heart of Lloret de Mar. Here we can see Lloret’s culinary richness, some local delicacies. We’re standing in front of Lloret de Mar’s Town Hall, one of the city’s most iconic buildings. How beautiful! ✨ Jelly beans. More jelly beans!✨ I like the ones that taste like Coca-Cola. Catalan cured meats. Fuet de Vic, Butifarra, Sobresada, etc. Plus some olives this way! ✨ And some local cheeses. 🧀 I can’t wait for a fuet sandwich in the Mediterranean sun! We enter the old town of Lloret, a network of narrow streets full of history and seafaring tradition. 🌞 Lloret de Mar welcomes more than a million visitors each year, attracted by its beaches, history, and lively atmosphere. 🏖️ Tourism began to grow in the 1950s and 1960s, when the Costa Brava became an international destination. ✈️ English, French, Germans, and today travelers from all over the world come here to enjoy the Mediterranean. 🎉 Lloret is known for its party atmosphere, with bars, clubs, and venues that attract especially young people. ⛪ In front of us stands the Church of San Román, the spiritual and cultural heart of Lloret de Mar. It was built in the 16th century, in the midst of the Renaissance. It is dedicated to Saint Román, patron saint of Lloret de Mar and protector of sailors and fishermen. Its façade combines Gothic and Renaissance styles, but what is most surprising is the Modernist touch added later. 🎨 The colorful domes and mosaics we see today were added at the beginning of the 20th century. 🌺 This Modernist detail gives the church a cheerful, Mediterranean feel, unlike other, more sober churches. If we could travel back in time, this square was the nerve center of Lloret’s commerce in the 19th century. ⚓ Many sailors came here to ask for protection before embarking on long and dangerous voyages. You cannot enter! 👀 Here we find the Rectory, the seat of the parish priest and the center of the community’s religious activity. With notable Modernist features, the building was the work of architect Bonaventura Conill i Montobbio. It is home to Saint Christina, the great protector of fishermen and sailors. The Parish Schools were built with financial contributions from the town’s leading Indiano families and were inaugurated in 1920. 🛳️ In the 19th century, many young people from Lloret emigrated to America in search of their fortune, and these adventurers became known as Indianos. 🌍 Cuba, Puerto Rico, Mexico, and Argentina were common destinations for the people of Lloret. 💰 Those who returned with wealth built large Modernist houses and financed public works. 🏛️ These Indiano families gave Lloret a cosmopolitan and prosperous air. Waffles. 🎨 Many of the colorful, mosaic-tiled facades we see today are the result of this Indiano money. 🕰️ The phenomenon began in the late 18th century and intensified in the 19th century with overseas trade. ⚓ Tobacco, sugar, coffee, and cotton were key products traded by the Indianos. 🏘️ Surnames like Garriga, Suñer, and Ventosa are linked to these Indiano families. Look at that beautiful eye! 👁️✨ 🌴 The Indianos even brought palm trees and exotic plants from America, which today adorn the squares and gardens here. We enter Avinguda Just Marlés Vilarrodona, the main artery that connects modern life in Lloret. Here, hotels, shops, and restaurants abound, welcoming thousands of visitors each year. 🎉 At night, this avenue comes alive with bars and entertainment venues. Did you know? Sugarcane is not a plant native to America. Known in China since ancient times, it was introduced to the Caribbean by Christopher Columbus in 1493. Barcardí rum is a world-renowned rum brand. It owes its name to a Catalan emigrant, Facund Bacardí. 🥘 Here you can enjoy typical dishes such as fideuás, paellas, and fresh fish that smell of the sea and summer. In the 70s and 80s, this avenue was known as “the party avenue.” Lloret de Mar is not just about sea and beaches; it’s also about flavor! The local cuisine reflects centuries of seafaring tradition. Suquet de peix is a fish stew with potatoes and aioli that is pure Mediterranean delight. We can’t forget fideuà, another star dish of Lloret and the Costa Brava. Fideuà is the cousin of seafood rice, but with thin noodles instead of rice. Traditionally made with seafood and fresh fish from the Costa Brava, it’s a true delicacy! Cooked in a large paella pan, over low heat, absorbing all the flavors of the Mediterranean Sea. Sa Caravera Beach. Golden sand lapped by a brilliant blue sea, a natural spectacle! Snoopy. Minnie Mouse. Welcome to the Camí de Ronda, a path that runs along the coast and offers dreamy views of the Mediterranean. The Costa Brava is characterized by cliffs, hidden coves, and azure sea. Originally, these paths served to guard the coast and protect against pirates and smugglers. At every turn, the rocks and cliffs tell us stories of sailors and navigators of yesteryear. The Mediterranean vegetation that surrounds us is pines, rosemary, and mastic trees, creating a unique aroma as we walk. From here, we can see the sea crashing against the rocks, creating a spectacle of foam and intense blue. Now we’ll see the famous Dona Marinera, a tribute to the women who waited for sailors in the port. It represents the patience, hope, and love that moved fishing families. This path connects small coves and secret beaches, some almost unknown to tourists. This drawn sign indicates the way. It’s the perfect place for photography lovers; every curve reveals a new landscape. Interesting fact: “Camí de Ronda” literally means “surveillance path,” a historical legacy we can still follow. The Costa Brava is the northeastern coast of Catalonia, from Blanes to the French border. Surrealist painters, such as Salvador Dalí, found inspiration in these landscapes of sea and rock. Here we arrive at the Llaveries Viewpoint, a natural balcony that offers incredible panoramic views. The sea breeze refreshes us as we enjoy this privileged perspective. Even in summer, this stretch maintains a certain tranquility, far from the hustle and bustle of the main beaches. The Costa Brava combines nature and culture with medieval villages, watchtowers, and historic lighthouses. The cliffs offer spectacular hiking trails, like the one we are following. Surveillance path. The Costa Brava is also a paradise for water sports such as kayaking, paddleboarding, scuba diving, and coasteering. Before we continue exploring, remember that we have many interesting videos of the Mediterranean and the Costa Brava waiting for you. Where are you watching us from? Tell us below—we love to know who’s joining us on each route. If you subscribe now, we promise to keep showing you spots that even the locals don’t know about. Share with anyone planning their next summer, so we can all dream of the blue sea together! The Castell de Sant Joan was a medieval fortress that protected Lloret de Mar from pirate attacks. Its construction dates back to the 11th century, although it has been restored several times over the centuries. Bad luck! You can no longer enter! The fortress reminds us of Lloret de Mar’s strategic importance in medieval times. From here, the coast was monitored and residents were alerted to any threats. We leave the fortress behind and head back along the Camí de Ronda. We’ll tell you how to get to Lloret de Mar and enjoy it to the fullest. The most common way to fly is to Barcelona-El Prat, the closest international airport, almost touching the Mediterranean! You can also land at Girona-Costa Brava, perfect if you’re coming from Europe and want to start your adventure quickly. From Barcelona, there are direct buses that take you to Lloret in about an hour, comfortable and affordable. For those who prefer the train, you can combine it with a bus from Blanes, and voila, Lloret awaits you! It’s the perfect place to admire the coast and relax in the sea breeze. Want maximum convenience? Taxis or VTCs drop you off directly in the city, ideal if you’re coming with luggage or in a group. Renting a car is also a great option, giving you total freedom to explore Lloret and the entire Costa Brava at your own pace. Now we’ve got to see Fenals Beach. The distance from Barcelona is only 72 km—less than an hour’s drive and you’ll already feel that sea breeze! From Girona, it’s even faster: about 35 km, approximately 30 minutes, and you’re already on the beach. During high season, some ferries and tourist boats connect towns along the Costa Brava—a trip with incredible views! Once in Lloret, local public transport is very convenient: a single ticket for €1.35, a 10-ride card for €10.60. And that’s how quickly we completed the Cami de Ronda! 💚 Do you know what Coasteering is? 👀 Coasteering is a unique experience combining hiking, climbing, and diving into the sea. Coasteering allows us to explore secret cliffs and caves that can only be seen from the sea. You don’t need to be an expert; local guides will show you everything and ensure maximum fun and safety. The funny thing is that this activity originated in Scotland and has become famous throughout the Costa Brava. ❣️❤️❣️ Jumping into the water from the rocks is exciting, and the adrenaline rush is unmatched! Lloret’s rock formations hide magical corners, which can only be discovered with this activity. This is Fenals Beach, one of the quietest and largest beaches in Lloret de Mar. Fenals is ideal for families and those looking for a more relaxed atmosphere than the main beach. The fine sand and shallow sea make it perfect for children and adults who enjoy the water. Quick question: which do you prefer, large beaches or hidden coves? Tell us in the comments, we want to discuss it! It depends a lot on the time, but generally we prefer the hidden coves! ✨ Every like is like a round of applause from home, and we felt it here on the walk! And so we come to the end of our walk through Lloret de Mar—what a wonderful city! We hope you enjoyed this virtual tour of the Costa Brava as much as we did. Lloret isn’t just beaches; it’s also history, culture, gastronomy, and adventures for all tastes. What was your favorite place on the tour? Tell us in the comments; we love reading them! Stanowczo cicha plaża, jest taka piosenka bardzo znana w Polsce: Morza szum, ptaków śpiew
Złota plaża pośród drzew
I went there once some years back. I was staying nearby at Roses, but I popped down to see Lloret de Mar just out of interest. I was pleasantly surprised – nothing special, just nice and relaxed unlike some of the awful Spanish resorts. Not for you if you like places like Benidorm or Magaluf, but great for families and people who just want to chill out.
Great walk video I really enjoyed it thanks for sharing
