Best places to visit Japan – Tokyo in October | Things to Do | Visit Japan in October
Welcome back to Tokyo. Are you ready for an even more colorful October? In this video, I’ll share the best things to do in Tokyo
and nearby this month. Make sure to watch until the end because I’ll also give you tips on October weather in Tokyo and what to wear and bring For a marvelous mix of red, yellow, and green I highly recommend Nasu in Tochigi around October 1st to 10th. You can make Nasu a day trip from Tokyo via Shinkansen and bus or stay overnight to fully enjoy the scenery. Nikko in Tochigi is an autumn foliage mustsee from mid to late October. It combines breathtaking natural scenery with UNESCO World Heritage shrines and temples. There are about eight popular autumn leaf spots. One day is barely enough to see all eight spots via public transport, so plan carefully. If possible, stay overnight. In central Tokyo, ginko trees along Gyoko Dori from Tokyo Station to the Imperial Palace turn golden yellow at the end of October. If you can’t wait for central Tokyo’s Ginko, Chichibu Music Park is at a higher altitude, so the trees reach full golden color toward the end of October. Next up is Kochia at Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki. These fluffy green bushes transform into a brilliant crimson
red during October. The best time to see them at their peak is from October 15th to
the 22nd. In early October, you’ll notice a beautiful gradient from green to red. And by late October, the red gradually fades into brown. Red spider lily hyenana usually finishes by September, but you may still see blooms October 1st to 7th depending on weather. Check the official websites for Kinchakuda
and Gongendo Park before visiting. Tokyo’s Showa Kinen Park has pink and white
cosmos blooming October 1st to 31st. For more, visit the Konosu Cosmos Festival in Saitama with over 12 million flowers. Smaller convenient option: Hamarikyu Gardens,
October 10th to 25th in central Tokyo. For rose lovers, I recommend 3 beautiful gardens. First is the Ikuta Ryokuchi Rose Garden in Kanagawa Prefecture. It’s a little outside Tokyo, but it’s a huge and free park with a wide variety of flowers. Next is the Jindai Botanical Gardens in Chofu, Tokyo,
which has the biggest rose garden in the Kanto region. And finally, the Kyu Furukawa Gardens in central Tokyo, where you can enjoy roses in a European style setting with a historic villa Roses usually bloom from
mid-occtober to the first week of November. They often peak in early November, but the timing
can change each year depending on the weather. Now, let’s talk about fireworks. Tokyo doesn’t
have many big fireworks shows in October, But one you shouldn’t miss is the
Tamagawa Fireworks Festival. In 2025, it will be held on Saturday, October 4th from 6:00 to 700 p.m. This is a joint celebration along the Tama River with
fireworks launched from both Setagaya in Tokyo and Kawasaki in Kanagawa If you find the right spot, you can even enjoy both shows at the same time with a total of around 12,000 fireworks lighting up the sky. On October 13th, 2025, sports day, head to
Anan Hachimangu Shrine in Takadanobaba to see archers and samurai attire shooting
arrows while riding at full speed. Do not miss Halloween in Tokyo. Traditionally, Shibuya
is the most famous place for Halloween in Tokyo. The vibe is vibrant, sometimes even chaotic,
especially on the weekend before Halloween and on Oct 31st But in recent years, local authorities have tightened regulations, banning street drinking, and restricting
public gatherings to keep things safe. If you’re into anime and manga, head to Ikebukuro,
usually held on the last weekend of October. For families and kids, Omotesando/Harajuku are the best spots. And of course, Tokyo Disneyland and Disney Sea also go all out
with seasonal Halloween decorations, parades, and shows starting from mid-occtober
and running until early November. In early October, short sleeves with a light
jacket are usually fine. As the month goes on, you’ll want to switch to long sleeves,
sweaters, or a mediumwe jacket as it can get cooler and occasionally rainy. October also marks the start of drier air in Tokyo. To stay comfortable, drink water regularly to keep
your nasal passages hydrated and reduce the risk of colds or ENT issues. Lip balm or moisturizer is also helpful since the air can get dry. Overall, October is one of the best months to
visit Tokyo with comfortable temperatures, clear skies, and less humidity compared to the hot summer. But as autumn begins, sudden showers are common, so don’t forget to bring an umbrella to keep your trip on track. If you don’t mind traveling a little farther
from Tokyo, consider heading to the Tohoku region at the end of October. Places like Amori and Iwate offer breathtaking autumn landscapes
with colorful mountains, lakes, and hot spring towns surrounded by fall foliage. It’s a great chance to enjoy Japan’s autumn
beauty in a less crowded, more tranquil setting.
