暑さに疲れた今こそ行きたい!絶景を涼しくめぐる癒やし旅:リゾートしらかみ&青池ルート

Breathtaking Local Train Journey
Through the Quiet Beauty of Tohoku’s Hidden Gems Welcome to this relaxing journey through northern Japan! We’ll ride the scenic Resort Shirakami train along the Sea of Japan, and explore the tranquil beauty of the Blue Pond, nestled in the World Heritage-listed Shirakami Mountains. On our second night, we’ll stay near the Jūniko Lakes, where the star-filled sky stretches all the way to the horizon. The narration in this video is in Japanese, but English subtitles are available throughout, so feel free to follow along! This time, we’ll be traveling from Akita to Aomori, enjoying the cool, scenic views! You’ll also get to enjoy some stunning scenery— so if you enjoy travel content like this, We’d love for you to subscribe to the channel! On Day 1, we’ll board the Resort Shirakami train and travel along the dramatic coastline. After arriving in Akita from Tokyo earlier today, we’ll board the Resort Shirakami No.5 at 2:00 p.m.— a scenic ride along the Sea of Japan coast. Today’s train is the “Buna” series— designed to evoke sunlight streaming through beech trees. More details about the Resort Shirakami and access information will be provided later! Now, let’s get started! The train changes direction at Higashi-Noshiro, so if you reserve seat A on the right side, from Higashi-Noshiro, your seat A will face the ocean. The journey begins through peaceful rice fields… I was lucky to spot several cranes flying overhead— it was such a surprise! This region is known for its connection to cranes, like the Tsuru-no-Maihasi bridge in Tsuruta Town. After we pass through Higashi-Noshiro, the train enters the scenic Gono Line. From Akita-Shirakami Station onward, the tracks draw closer to the coast, and from here to Fukaura, the scenery is absolutely breathtaking. Since the Resort Shirakami is a sightseeing train, it slows down near scenic points and announces them as we approach. So if you feel the train easing up, get your camera ready— something beautiful is coming into view! The ocean sparkles and is incredibly beautiful at this time of day, but sometimes it’s hard to capture its true beauty on camera because of glare or reflection. We’ll introduce another spectacular view along the line on the morning route of Day 2! We’ve now arrived at Fukaura Station, where the train will stop for about 18 minutes. It’s a great chance to stretch your legs and enjoy the view— you can even see the ocean from the platform! Feel free to step outside and take in the sea breeze! About 13 minutes later, another Resort Shirakami train arrives on the opposite track— this one’s the Blue Pond (Aoike) series. Two minutes later, it departs first. Seeing two of the three unique train sets together is one of the hidden pleasures of the Resort Shirakami line. Back on the train—let’s head to the next scenic spot. As we approach the Yukiaizaki coast, the train slows down again. This wide grassy cape is surrounded by rugged rocks— it’s considered one of the most stunning views along the line. This area is known for its stunning sunset views— but unfortunately, we’re a bit too early to catch it today. We’ll introduce the beautiful daytime coastline on Day 2! Next is Senjōjiki Station, where we stop for 15 minutes. Please note that Resort Shirakami No. 1 and No. 6 do not stop there ! You can get off along the way to see the Senjojiki Coast that unfolds before you. The train blows its whistle three minutes before departure, but it can be hard to hear, so make sure to check the departure time and don’t miss your train. After departing Senjōjiki, we’ll get off at Ajigasawa Station for tonight. This area is also famous for beautiful sunsets, so we’ll take a walk in the seaside park before dinner and call it a day. For our second day, we’ll head to Aoike Pond in the Shirakami Mountains! On Day 2, we take Resort Shirakami No.2 from Ajigasawa to Jūniko Station, to visit the Blue Pond in the Shirakami Mountains. The area is easy to explore on your own without a guide. If you’re crossing the railroad tracks instead of taking the stairs, be sure to cross about three minutes before departure! 9:54 AM: Resort Shirakami No. 2 departs Ajigasawa, bound for Akita. This time, we’re using the latest beech formation. As we pass through farmland, the ocean gradually comes into view. The sky is breathtakingly beautiful! The first stop is Senjojiki Station. This train also stops here for 15 minutes, so you can take a stroll along the coast. We head back before departing to make sure we don’t miss our train! From Senjojiki, enjoy the beautiful scenery along the coast for a while! The coastline and the color of the sea change constantly, so you’ll never get bored of looking at them! When you see the unique rock formations mark Yukiaizaki, one of the most scenic spots on the route. They say the name comes from the Kitamaebune trade ships that used to sail through these waters. You can see the beauty of the crystal clear waters from the train window! Next, at Fukaura, we stop for 4 minutes to pass the Aomori-bound train that has arrived earlier. The first train of the Aoike formation is already stopped. This train passes by without stopping at Senjojiki. There were more people coming and going from the fourth car, so it was a bit difficult to photograph the two formations together. Since the stop time is short, we head back and depart! After departing Fukaura Station, the second station is Juniko Lake, near Aoike. We’ve arrived at Juniko Station! If you make a reservation at Hotel Aone Shirakami Juniko, they will store your luggage at the station. For more details, please see the hotel link in the description! To get to Aoike, take the bus bound for Okujuniko. The bus stop is across from the station on the right side. You can also use Suika It’s about a 15-minute bus ride and you’ll arrive in front of Kyororo Forest Products Center! This is the time when Aoike looks its most beautiful, so we’ll leave right away! Aoike isn’t the only scenic spot around Juniko ! The one-hour walking course takes you through a natural beech forest and Fukitsubo Pond, which has been selected as one of Japan’s 100 famous waters. It’s a relaxing and easy stroll! The course is well-maintained, so just follow the signs. Since you’ll be entering a natural forest, insect repellent and long-sleeved clothing that covers your skin are essential! At the fork in the road, follow the “Ketoba Pond” on the left. This large pond is said to have been named “Ketoba Pond” because it looks like a rooster’s comb when viewed from above. A pleasant breeze is blowing, and waterfowl are energetically chasing something! Are there fish there? It looks like they got away! What a shame! We arrived at Aoike Pond in just under 10 minutes from Kyororo . It’s said to be most beautiful around noon when the sunlight shines in, but what about this time? The pond appears to be a slightly dark navy blue when it first comes into view… but after waiting a little while, the sun began to shine through, and we were treated to a truly beautiful and spectacular view! The green of the surrounding beech trees is reflected in the pond, and even the leaves that have fallen into the pond sparkle, like mother-of-pearl inlay decorating the pond! The sunlight filtering through the trees creates a contrast between the blue and navy, creating a truly fantastical scene! Watching the ripples created by the fish one after another makes you lose track of time. The water is so clear you can see the aquatic plants and the bottom of the pond. It’s beautiful spring water. While I was admiring it, the sun went out and the water turned back into a deep navy blue. Timing is important to see such a spectacular view! Now, let’s continue on our walking course! We climb the stairs above Aoike Pond and head towards the natural beech forest. This is the end of the climb, and from here you can enjoy a leisurely stroll! Going through the soft light of the beech forest , you will find the path leading down to Wakitsubo Pond on your right. It is said that the healing effects of Juniko Lake as forest therapy are medically backed, and the pleasant scent of the forest makes you want to stop and take a deep breath from time to time. In the deep forest, it seems that the fatigue of everyday life is being soothed from deep within your body. When you hear the sound of water, you will have arrived at Wakitsubo Pond Wakitsubo Pond, selected as one of Japan’s 100 famous waters, is a very beautiful pond with high transparency because it is fed by spring water. You can also see trees that have been bent by the weight of the snow, known as nemagari. This is proof of their resilient strength, having endured the harsh winter . Now, let’s return to Kyororo along the walking route. Moss has grown even on the handrail . When you see the road, you will reach the end of the road, the last highlight of this route, Ochikuchi Pond. In autumn, the area around the pond is beautifully colored with autumn leaves. We returned to Kyororo along the same road we had taken on the bus. There was a green tunnel, so it was quite cool to walk through. When you see the Kyororo sign, you’ve reached the finish line! We took a lunch break until the hotel’s free shuttle bus came to pick us up! !We had a mountain hut menu, with soba noodles and curry, and we also tried the famous Aoike cider and Aoike soft serve ice cream! The cider part is crunchy. There are also scenic spots along the coast near Juniko Station. From Juniko Coast Park, about a 10-minute walk from the station, you can see the Shirakami Mountains. The Resort Shirakami train passed by at the foot of the mountain. On the other side of the sea, you can see the area with the Elephant Rock and other attractions. You’ll need some imagination! If you time it right, you can even see a train coming out of the tunnel at the railroad crossing near Elephant Rock. Our second night’s stay at Aone Shirakami Juniko Lakes is a hotel featuring cottages, a Japanese-style room, a hot spring using deep underground water, and a restaurant. The Japanese-style room we stayed in this time has a loft and high ceilings, making it feel quite spacious. There’s also a Japanese-style room in the loft, with a skylight from which you can gaze at the starry sky. At night, you can see a beautiful starry sky that seems to reach the horizon. It was so amazing you could gaze at it forever! Access Information: Arrive in Akita a little early and make a stop along the way. Since the ride times are a little long and the great value Gono Line Free Pass can only be purchased within the area, I stopped off at the station building for lunch. While the station building is home to many famous Akita restaurants, it can get quite crowded, so an earlier Shinkansen might be a better option. The Resort Shirakami is a sightseeing train that runs between Akita and Aomori. All seats are reserved, and a reserved seat ticket costs a flat rate of 840 yen (plus Fare) regardless of the route. If your one-way or two-day fare total exceeds 3,880 yen, the Gono Line Free Pass is a great deal! It’s valid for two days and costs 3,880 yen, so it’s a great deal for this route, or if you’re traveling beyond Hirosaki even on a one-way trip! It covers not only the Gono Line but the entire Resort Shirakami area. You can purchase the Gono Line Free Pass at the reserved seat ticket machine inside the Midori window to the right of the ticket gate Now, let’s take a look inside the train! This is a reserved seat in the standard car. The seats are comfortable and fluffy, with large windows typical of a tourist train, and there are observation rooms at the front and back of the train. The seats are spaced far apart, which is why there are two tables. The height of the tables is adjusted to match the windows so you can enjoy the view, so there is a step at your feet. Be careful when getting out! The fully flat box seats are reserved for each seat, so if there are three or fewer people, you may have to share a table. The counter, which is made generously from wood from the route, including Akita cedar and Aomori cypress, is not currently open for sale, but you can purchase popular snacks and drinks from Aomori and Akita using the self-checkout system . My personal recommendation is the apple stick pie! Route bus schedules are subject to change, so please check the website for details using the link in the description !
