Japanese sprinters Yoshihide Kiryu, Yuhi Mori and Abdul Hakim Sani Brown all failed to make it out of the heats in men’s 100 meters at the World Athletics Championships, which kicked off at National Stadium in Tokyo on Saturday.
Veteran sprinter Kiryu, part of Japan’s silver medal-winning 4×100 relay team at the 2016 Rio Olympics, was fifth place in his heat with a time of 10.28 seconds. The heat was won by U.S. superstar Noah Lyles at 9.95.
“The plan was to make it through the semifinals and then fight it out in the final, but that plan fell apart already in the heats, so I feel bad for not running a good race,” Kiryu said.
