Featured at the Women’s Pavilion, Mariam Torosyan shares a powerful message on fighting violence and building equality.

Osaka, Japan — At the World Expo 2025 in Osaka, the Women’s Pavilion has emerged as one of the event’s most powerful stages for global storytelling. Designed by acclaimed Japanese architect Yuko Nagayama and realized by world-renowned artist Es Devlin, the Pavilion is dedicated to envisioning a future rooted in equity, harmony, and togetherness (Architectural Digest).

Among the 15 individuals featured for their role in transforming the world is Mariam Torosyan, founder of Safe YOU, an award-winning AI-powered platform combating violence against women. Torosyan is introduced on the Pavilion’s official site as one of the global changemakers shaping the future (Women’s Pavilion, Cartier).

Her installation takes the form of a mirror — but it is no ordinary reflection. Inside, visitors encounter a holographic projection of Torosyan herself, who speaks directly to them:

“I have chosen to fight against violence, and I call on you to stand with me, together, for the women of the world.”

When visitors extend their hands toward the mirror, another message appears in their palms:

“YOU AND I MUST OWN THE CHANGE.”

For Torosyan, the symbolism is deeply personal. “A girl from Armenia — a small country at the crossroads of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East — standing strong with an open heart, inviting the world to stand with us,” she said.

The inauguration of the Pavilion brought together prominent voices from around the world.

Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado of Japan opened with a call to follow the example of those featured: “The individuals featured in the Women’s Pavilion have driven change and expanded their influence through consistent small daily actions — footsteps we can surely follow” (Financial Times).

Her Excellency Reem Al Hashimy, UAE Minister of State for International Cooperation, reflected on the Pavilion’s journey: “At Expo 2020 Dubai, the creation of the Women’s Pavilion was a defining moment — a statement of intent, declaring that women’s contributions are a vital force shaping humanity’s path forward. Here in Osaka, we see a bold evolution — embodying both continuity and innovation” (Gulf News).

Jacinda Ardern, former Prime Minister of New Zealand, emphasized the urgency of women’s leadership: “Women still hold only roughly a quarter of parliamentary seats globally… Having women in leadership and as decision makers is a critical step in overcoming inequity” (Forbes).

With more than 28.2 million visitors expected across Expo 2025, Torosyan hopes the Pavilion’s message will resonate far beyond Osaka. “When people look into that mirror, hear my voice, and see those words in their hands, I hope they will ultimately see themselves — and the great impact they can make.”
