I Tried to Climb Mt. Fuji… The Harsh Reality – Day 11 in Tokyo

Climbing Mount Fuji is supposed to end with an epic sunrise, but this is what really happened. Good morning, hikers. This is day 11 of living in Tokyo for 30 days as a digital nomad. And today, I’m hiking Mount Fuji. First, let’s get some coffee. First coffee shop that I see that they give you samples to try. A whole row of free coffee to try. This is cool. I think this one is on the sixth out of 11 that I tried so far. So, the coffee shop that I just went to check out is in the Shinucha station because here there’s expressway terminal to get to Mount Fu. Oh, yes. I I see. So, yeah, this bus takes around 2 and 1/2 hours to get to the base. By the way, yesterday I took one of the challenges. I did the samurai lesson and then I went to a shaboo shabu dinner the matic of bears. That was actually a fun night. We can see the summit though right here. It’s going to be a fun day. So, welcome to the base of Mount Fuji or what’s mostly known as the fifth station because there’s a few stations all the way to the top and it’s going to take around 4 hours to go to the seventh station and then to the eighth where we’re going to stay. All right, so apparently this is called the Fujis and is the is the mascot. Let’s say Fuji, right? They sell everything. They sell jackets, raincoats, man. So, we’re not sure if it’s going to uh rain there. We might need it cuz we arrived and it got cloudy. There’s of course organized trip to go to the summit, but they’re more expensive and you can really do it by yourself. If you don’t have sticks to go up, it’s actually nice to buy them here because it’s a souvenir and it’s also useful. This is a proof that uh we are going to start the hike today. And of course, I’m going to download the trail in all trails. Now, I definitely need to buy some pocari sweat. Like this is basic. So, there’s a hiking fee of 4,000 yen, but you can do it online. It’s better because there’s a limit how many people they can go. Finally, let’s go. Finally ascending. Finally ascending. Yeah, it’s such a nice entrance. No, not not so good. I thought you were going to walk like that. No, I think I dropped the [Music] sleeper here. It’s a bit slip. No, you can go either way. There’s two routes like the this is summit but the Yoshida trails what we’re doing. Oh, nice. Yeah. Now we’re getting through the clouds. Misty is just the weather’s changing soft. So this guy was in the most of the girls bar. We just recognized walking here in the Mount Fuji. That’s awesome. Cool. He has the this the lab picture. Yeah. Yeah. Drop it to me. This is so funny. This is awesome. A small place. Yeah, definitely. And it’s great to find us here, man. So, we’re going somewhere over there. Oh, like like a ninja. It’s sideways, but it actually wants to go this way. [Music] Nice. Okay. It’s getting so misty over there now. So, we’re getting all of the climates now. We’re getting a little bit of rain, which is a little bit. All right, that’s the seven station. There’s already some huts. You can stay there, but we are actually not going there. We’re going higher. Is that our hut? Did you want to set up the police? Oh, hi. Hi. Okay. They gave us the the map just in case. Okay. Oh, this they sell water, too. Nice. It’s good to know. It’s 500 yen to get your stick branded. Oh, what else do you got there? I got a rice burger. It’s really tasty. Oh, so yeah, we’re now in the seventh station. Took us around 2 hours taking a rest here. They also have toilets. They have food. It’s changing. The climate is changing all the time. Yeah, let’s carry on. This is the start of going to the a station. Yeah, eight station over here. Almost made it there. By the way, there’s a season for hiking this Mount Fuji and it starts early July all the way to today, September 10. We’re actually in the last last day of the entrance of the Mount Fuji. Hi. Okay, let’s carry on. So, adventures like this is one of the main reasons that I like to be a nomad. But after so many years of doing this lifestyle, like I got to be more careful about taking risk. That’s why I recently signed not to Genki Native because I can do a hike like this one or go to scuba dive in Bali or or ride a scooter in Thailand and I’ll be sure that I’ll be being taken care of. And the cool thing is this company is made for and by digital numbers they also doing this lifestyle. And unlike any other typical travel insurance, this one actually uh covers you for life. But you can take any uh doctor private or public and you can go phone, you can go hike like this and making sure that your health’s being taken care of. If you want to get it, I’m going to put the QR code here. All links in description. Hopefully I don’t have to use Genki, but it’s good to have it just in case. Wa, we’re so close to the hot. Let’s walk a little bit more. We made it. 100 for All right, we’ve made it to the hut. I mean, this is the only availability that we found. It’s like two very small beds. Small bed. Very small. We’re going to like sleeping tight tonight. All right, dinner was okay, but I needed something to eat because we need to get ready for tomorrow. Well, it’s only 7:00 p.m. here, but we’re going to go sleep now because if you want to see a sunrise, we got to wake up at 2:30 a.m. And before I go, I want to reply some of the comments from the last video. And John says, “First from Kyoto.” Nice. I never been to Kyoto. It’s on my list. So, New Creation was asking like, “What do you travel a lot? What is your goal in the next 5 to 10 years?” It’s actually a very interesting question. I’m thinking about making a video about that cuz I already had 10 years of digital nomadism. So, I don’t know what’s going to be for the next ones, but this is things I want to share to you later. Ciao. Here’s the fortunate part of this hike. We woke up at the right time, had a quick breakfast, and then we head out to the top, but it was freezing, windy, dark, and the clouds rolled in once we got close to the top. We even had to stay in a bathroom to get some shelter, but we already freezing cuz we got so wet. This is the only shot that I was able to get from the top. So, sorry because I was shaking a lot. And I’m just back home. I didn’t get the perfect sunrise. I didn’t even get a view from the top. Sometimes adventures doesn’t go as we plan, but really the journey it’s a real story and I’m really happy for the whole climb that I did. That’s why I wanted to show you this video. And this actually made me realize the importance of a health insurance. So if you want to get insurance through Genki, I’m going to put a cure code here cuz I’ll totally recommend it. And thank you Genki for supporting this channel. I’ll just rest tonight after the mad morning that I had and get ready because I’m still going strong for the 30 days challenge of living in Tokyo. So see you tomorrow. Ciao. [Music]

Today was supposed to be the ultimate adventure: climbing Mt. Fuji but the mountain had other plans. Between the weather, exhaustion, and the unexpected challenges along the way, this was NOT the experience I imagined.
