2 days around Nagano City | the temples and nature are so beautiful in summer
After a 1 hour 40 minute ride on the Hokuriku Shinkansen from Tokyo, we finally arrived in Nagano! The exterior of Nagano Station is magnificent It’s mid-August, and it’s 34°C outside We take the bus towards Zenkōji Temple, but we stop at Hananokoji for lunch We are looking for a restaurant in the area, which feels very nice Since everything is closed, we end up at Ogawanosho They make oyaki, a local specialty They are dumplings filled with vegetables or bean paste The interior is really great Apparently, you can take a workshop on how to make oyaki We continue on our way to Zenkōji Temple This is the main shopping street before arriving at the temple This Starbucks is pretty! There are some really cute souvenirs here *Fans of Shine Muscat grapes* I think I’ll have it It’s very good The atmosphere makes me feel like I’m in another era We finally arrive at the main entrance of Zenkōji Temple The fūrin wind chimes make a really pleasant sound in summer And here we are in front of the main hall of the temple Some trees are already preparing for autumn I really liked Zenkōji, I’ll come back during another season Back at the station to end the day It’s beautiful, even at night. I don’t forget to buy some of this excellent juice, because Nagano is famous for its apples Today, we’re taking a 25-minute ride on the Shinonoi Line to see the rice fields at… Obasute Station! The view is breathtaking! At this station, you can get a digital stamp with the Ekitag app Some scenes from the anime Turkey take place here Let’s go and take a closer look at the terraces The famous Koshihikari rice is grown here The only downside was that it was terribly hot But I will definitely come back during another season too We leave a small message in the guest book before leaving Obasute is considered one of the “3 most beautiful views in Japan by train.” Now we take the Alpico bus for a 1.5-hour drive to Togakushi Shrine Okusha A round trip ticket costs ¥4,000 from Nagano Station Before starting the short hike, we’ll eat some soba, a Nagano specialty Soba karinto is a sweet treat that I recommend Soba tea is very refreshing in summer Very good soba tempura! The hike starts here, right next to the bus stop It’s a 40-minute walk to the shrine Beware of bears! Togakushi Shrine Okusha – Zuishinmon After about 10 minutes of climbing, we arrive at the shrine After returning, we look for a place to pass the time while waiting for the bus We came for coffee, but it’s closed 😢 So we’re going to visit the mini village, which costs ¥700 I sense a presence… There was also a kind of ninja escape game that was really fun, which I recommend if you have the time Back to Nagano Station (1.5-hour trip) I like to collect photos of stylish manhole covers Arteria Bakery, for a pre-dinner snack Their melon bread is very good, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside ODDO Coffee, which offers excellent coffee beans with coffee tasting I did my shopping It’s dinner time at Curry Shop Yamagoya It is presumably the inventor of natto curry Curry with cheese, hamburger steak, and bacon 🤤
