There has been a 68 per cent year-on-year increase in Indian travellers searching for trips to Japan between May 15 and August 15, 2025 compared to the same period last year, according to a report by Agoda. The figures underline Japan’s growing appeal across diverse traveller segments, driven by cultural, leisure and experiential offerings.
Among the top destinations, Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto dominated search trends. Tokyo recorded 59 per cent growth, while Osaka saw the sharpest rise at 158 per cent , boosted by attractions such as Universal Studios Japan and nearby Nara deer park. Kyoto followed with 53 per cent growth, underscoring its enduring popularity for cultural and heritage tourism.

Other Japanese destinations also saw notable increases in search interest. Fujikawaguchiko (+36 per cent ) and Sapporo (+18 per cent ) ranked fourth and fifth, while Hakone (+46 per cent ), Okinawa (+47 per cent ), Fukuoka (+14 per cent ), Yokohama (+20 per cent ) and Nagoya (+41 per cent ) completed the top ten. Notably, Nagoya entered the list for the first time this year, replacing Narita.

The data reflects a widening preference among Indian travellers beyond traditional urban centres, with interest in scenic landscapes, hot springs, and coastal escapes. Fujikawaguchiko and Hakone are popular for their proximity to Mount Fuji and wellness offerings, while Okinawa and Fukuoka highlight the appeal of coastal and cultural experiences.
