Visiting Fushimi Inari Shrine and more food! | Kyoto, Japan
doing a lot of walking. So, we need to peel up a bit. So, we got a quick family mart breakfast. I have a emergency Snickers in the backpack as well, just in case one of us gets cranky. I don’t think we have to wait too long till lunch. No, we’ll see what’s going to happen. But a lot of temples, a lot of sites, a lot of walking. Let’s go. [Music] And there’s my wife playing Pokémon Go. What the heck is happening? She turned into a gamer. I’m not usually the gamer. You see that twisting of the finger when she’s catching a Pokemon? She got caught red-handed. Got it. [Music] I had no idea how much there was before we even got to the gates, but apparently they made an like did an expansion and move the gates more westward and put in all those temples and stuff like that. But now we made it to the gates. [Music] The sheer amount of people. There’s a lot of people. [Music] So, we’re going to try to lift this stone. You have to come up with a wish and then think in your mind how heavy you think the ball is going to be. The stone. If it’s lighter than you thought, your wish is is easier to come true. If it’s heavier, it’s more difficult to come true. But it doesn’t mean it won’t. I can’t tell you. I love their gutter system. Like their drainage system. Is that what this one is? Yeah. Pretty cool, huh? Pretty cool. It’s more artful, I would say. What can you tell us about this tree? Something about the name means that the roots aren’t in the ground and it’s good fortune to people thinking business. I don’t know if that applies to us, but [Music] You [Music] like my Instagram modeling? Loved it. [Music] So, one interesting thing I have noticed since being in Japan is there’s always like an abundance of people with suitcases that they bring like everywhere. There was a some people that were just carrying their suitcase here through the shrine. So, it’s just interesting. Some are definitely tourist. You can tell they’re changing destinations, but some don’t seem like it. So, I don’t know. Funny how She’s amazed and perplexed by these suitcases, but there’s all this that she’s not amazed or perplexed by. I know I am, but you’ve been shooting that for the Is there a spider in me? So, bug. I am amazed and perplexed by all of this as well. But you’ve already been shooting this for the last hour and a half. I got way too much footage. I don’t even know what to do. [Music] Sometimes you see these Instagram posts about coming here to these gates like super early to get the best shots, but honestly, I saw another one where they say just keep walking cuz it’s a huge distance and a lot of people give up and you’ll eventually catch your break. We just caught ours. So, as we said, all you got to do is keep going up and you will catch your break. Not a lot of people like to walk very high up. So, bam. Don’t go and take your pictures down there. Come up to the top right there. We’re at the top. That’s 233 m high. That is a huge contrast between our 5,550 caliphatar at and the Himalayas. I think this is a little uneventful of the top. I thought we’d have a view. Yeah, the view was down there. Yeah. Um I think uh we’re going to go down there, look at the view, and talk a little more. Yeah. I thought we were going to eat. Oh, well, I don’t know what else we’re talking about. Oh, it’s worth it just to come to the top anyways because there are a lot less people up here. Um, a lot longer than I thought it was going to be. We might have to cut some other things from our itinerary. So, but first up, food. Here she comes. Motivated by food and food alone. Of course, it’s way past lunchtime. Yes. I find it funny how I always talked about how Erica would starve me all the time, but whenever I plan things, it’s absolutely worse. It’s like I completely forget about food and just keep going. That accurate statement. Yes. This is where we plan things. I do plan things with a mix of winging it. All right. So, Aaron found a ramen restaurant where there’s like five or six seats only and it’s only open at certain times. It is called the unnamed ramen restaurant because it literally does not have a name. So, they put that on Google. The unnamed ramen restaurant. Let’s go. Literally no sign for this whatsoever. Hence the unnamed part. It is down here off the side of the street underneath the building. I’m pretty sure this is it. I’m about like 95% positive. But I was already thinking about doing that before. I’m going to get ramen. I’m doing ramen. So you come down here. This is definitely it. You do your order like normal. Please choose the topping. I was wrong. There’s like 12 seats. But super cute. That’s pretty cool. We’re actually Well, it is almost 2:00, but we are some of the only people here. Someone came in behind us. You order from a machine and then they just make it for you. So, we basically both got plain ramen, except I got an egg farts are going to smell good. I really like it. I like this better than the other ramen place we went to. The cold dip is still my favorite, which they do have here, and it’s probably really good. But I like that this uh broth is a little bit grainier. So, it’s really good. You heard it, folks. If it’s not approved by Erica, it’s not approved by anybody. Let’s dig in. These men are artists. It’s just an absolute pleasure to kind of see how they turn the making of ramen into art. It’s uh it’s pretty extensive process. Like you may just sit there and work. Like one guy’s just sitting there working on the broth entirely. Just making brand new broth. Delicious. I was thinking this broth reminds me it’s more similar to the one that we had with the cold dip noodles, which is why I think I like the broth better. Which makes sense since they do do cold dip noodles here as well. Are they called dip? No, they’re just dip. Just dip noodles. M cold noodles. Get noodles. Come to this place. If you’re in Kyoto, it got popular or it started picking up more as we were coming out. But Erica’s just sitting here making fun of me because I’m constantly having to duck through every single door. Not a problem for me. No. On to the next thing. Aaron drug us to this area to get a picture. or there’s too many people to actually get a picture. But I have been waiting and not gotten any matcha ice cream for days. So, we found a place that has the matcha ice cream plus little cake pieces in the bottom. I did just go half and half on the ice cream with matcha, but I can’t taste it while I’m holding your thing. I didn’t used to like matcha. [Music] Yeah, I didn’t really used to like it, but it’s so good. So light, so refreshing. We’ll have to come back in a minute whenever I get to the cake pieces cuz they’re too berry right now. Okay, I finally got down to some of the cake. M. It has like more of a green tea flavor than just the ice cream does. Oh, it’s very soft. M. I actually wasn’t going to get this one originally and Aaron kind of convinced me to. So, good convincing. Too many people. I tried to find this spot where it’s got like the perfect picture with the pigota and everything, but I’m just tired of the people. I think probably everyone else has tried to find that, too. I just There were a lot of people this way and I’m like, “Nope, I turned right around. I’m done. We’re going to like the what’s it called? Uh some other district. It might be just as busy. I think I’m getting tired of people. We might enjoy our free onen back at the hotel. We’ll see. I think we might have inadvertently found the spot. And there really aren’t as many people over here as there were over there. [Music] That is a lie. You just lied to yourself. No, there’s a whole bunch of people over there. [Music] There’s a reason they tell you to get there like 6 a.m. in order to get that shot and that view, but I know that Erica wasn’t going to be getting up that early. So now I think it’s the Gillion District. I don’t know. We’ll see. [Music] So, for dinner, Aaron decided to come to this place where we can eat off of a hot griddle. We have no idea how to eat off of it. They bring out the food and they ask him how we eat it and he says, “I don’t know.” Well, they give us some sort of spatula type thing and some chopsticks. So, I don’t know. I think we’re just going to go for it. Use the spatula. Cut off a portion. Then you set that aside. Grab you your chopsticks. And then you just go to town. You could just put your portion on your plate. Yeah, I guess. Let it cool down. Yeah. I tried all the sauces. I don’t know. It turned out like this. It’s got a little bit of a kick. This is basically called waryaki cheese. And it’s a mix of between like eggs and noodles. I think you explained it right there. But it’s pretty good. And then this one is just fried noodle. I felt like being here in Japan, we had to uh try this. [Applause] That’s not what I expected. It’s like more of like creamy noodles than I thought. I thought it was going to be a little bit more crispy, I guess, for some reason. I don’t know why I thought that. Soft creamy noodles. Yeah, soft creamy noodles. A Okay, success. No, success. Good pick, Aaron. I think uh we’re going to close it out on this one. We have something I’ve been dying to do ever since coming to Japan or planning to come to Japan. uh we could not do unfortunately the super expensive version of what I wanted to do because obviously we don’t have the money. So we settled for like a middle ground one. But you’ll see on the next video we’re doing it. [Music]
We finally got a day with good weather and our first stop of the day was Fushimi Inari Shrine. This shrine complex was much more massive than we planned and filled with sooo many people, but the further to the top you get the crowds massively reduce! After visiting the shrine, we ate at the “un-named ramen shop” and explored the different districts in the area.

I think that all videos from travellers in Japan should include a step counter btw lol 😂. Also no shame in playing Pokemon Go… The Crew plays too!😊
We absolutely loved Kyoto! Such a fun city to just walk around (even if you do a million steps up hill) 😂
