Why You MUST Visit Hokkaido, Japan! 2025

Hey everyone, welcome back to the channel. Today we’re heading up north to Japan’s last frontier, Hokkaido. This place is huge, wild, and full of surprises. You’ll find jaw-dropping nature, fascinating history, delicious food, and some fun cultural experiences you won’t get anywhere else. So, if you thought Japan was only about Tokyo and Kyoto, think again. Hokkaido is going to blow your mind. Hokkaido is all about space and nature. Picture this. You’re standing on rolling green hills with flower fields stretching out forever. In summer, places like Ferrrono and Ba turn completely purple with lavender. It’s so beautiful. You’ll feel like you’re inside a painting. and winter. Oh man, winter in Hokkaido is like stepping into a snow fairy tale. Ski resorts like Niko are world famous. Even if you don’t ski, just walking around the snowy towns feels like magic. Here’s something cool. Hokkaido wasn’t always part of mainland Japan. For centuries, it was home to the Inu people, the indigenous people of northern Japan. Their traditions, like their unique language and deep respect for nature, are still alive today. You can learn about them at the Yupo National Inu Museum. And then there’s Hakodati. Back in the 1800s, it was one of the first Japanese ports to open to the world. Walk around and you’ll see westernstyle buildings. And if you head up to Mount Hakadi, the night view is said to be one of the best on earth. All right, let’s talk about food because trust me, Hokkaido is heaven for foodies. Seafood, oh, it’s next level here. Sushi, crab, scallops, even uni. So fresh it melts in your mouth. Head to the Saporro Njo Market for a taste. And then there’s Saporro Ramen. Miso based, rich with butter and corn on top. Perfect on a cold day. Don’t miss Jingga. That’s grilled lamb you cook yourself at the table. It’s tasty and fun. And dairy lovers, you’re in for a treat. Hokkaido’s milk, cheese, and especially soft serve ice cream are unbelievably creamy. Oh, and fun fact, Hokkaido is the birthplace of Saporro beer. Now, where should you go? Saporro, the capital, famous for the snow festival, where giant ice sculptures line the streets. Otaru, a romantic canal town, perfect for strolling with glass shops and music box stores. Shirakco National Park, pure wilderness, brown bears, and drifting ice. It’s even a UNESCO World Heritage site. Lake Toya and No Borabetsu. Hot springs with snowy views. Honestly, soaking in an outdoor onson while it’s snowing, unforgettable. Here are some fun facts. Hokkaido covers more than 20% of Japan’s land, but only about 5% of the population lives here. So, lots of space, no crowds. In winter, some towns hit minus20° C. But instead of hiding indoors, locals celebrate with snow festivals and warm food. It’s not just lavender. There are sunflower fields in Hokuryu and the stunning blue pond in Betu. So whether you’re skiing in Niko, eating fresh sushi in Saporro, relaxing in a hot spring, or learning about the Inu people, Hokkaido will give you memories you’ll never forget.
