Grilled rice balls in Japan #japanesefood #onigiri #shorts

This is the best rice ball in Japan, and I hate to break it to you, but you might never have one. You can only get this grilled rice ball on the streets of Kawagoy at Nakichi Honen. They open at 10, and once they’re sold out, that’s it. These oni are grilled and brushed with soy sauce, and then it’s your choice of bonito or sardine flakes that get piled onto the warm rice balls. So, bonito flakes are unexpectedly mild in flavor, but provide the perfect fluffy texture against a salty, slightly crisp grilled rice

This is the best rice ball you’ll have in Japan fr 🍙

Every time I come to Kawagoe I WILL try and get this yakionigiri, aka grilled rice ball. They brush the exterior with soy sauce as it’s being grilled, which makes a sweet and salty crisp layer on the outside of the rice. Then it’s covered in fluffy bonito flakes, which adds to the flavor, and makes it super fun to eat 😋

Once they sell out, the shop closes, so def try and head there first on your trip to Kawagoe! 🏃🏻‍♂️
