Be careful when driving on winter roads (Cars and Rental Cars)
If you’re traveling to Tomamu from central Sapporo on the expressway, enter the Hokkaido Expressway from Sapporo Minami IC, then take the Hokkaido Expressway at Chitose-Eniwa JCT and exit at Tomamu IC. The distance is approximately 125 km, the travel time is approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes, and the expressway toll is 3,380 yen. There are no gas stations open at all times in the Tomamu area, and there is only one gas station on the Hokkaido Expressway, so if you’re traveling by car, it’s a good idea to make sure you have plenty of fuel and fill up before entering the Hokkaido Expressway, or fill up near Obihiro, Furano, or Yubari.
Also, while driving is convenient as it allows you to go directly to your destination, you need to be careful on winter roads. If you are not used to driving on winter roads, don’t push yourself too hard and use public transportation such as JR trains or buses, and make sure you enjoy your trip with safety as your top priority.
