Naomi Osaka has made a subtle dig in her latest social media post after the US Open.

Osaka reached the US Open semifinals this year, before losing out to eventual runner-up Amanda Anisimova.

Despite being unable to add to her trophy cabinet, Osaka has climbed up the WTA rankings as she continues her improved form.

The former world number one has been very vocal on social media since then, including Osaka commenting on Taylor Townsend’s Instagram post and now she appears to have made another dig relating to the American.

As the dust now settles on the final Grand Slam of the season, many players are posting on social media to reflect on their time in New York.

Osaka is no different, posting a series of pictures to her Instagram with the caption, “NY you’ve been lovely. Off to Asia now.”

While this may seem pretty standard on the surface, what really got fans talking was the final image on the Instagram post that showed the aforementioned Townsend’s argument with Jelena Ostapenko from the US Open.

In this image, Townsend is smiling as Ostapenko points in her direction, and the American actually commented on this post.

Townsend wrote, “LAST SLIDE HAS ME ON THE FLOOR (laughing face emoji) Love how you slid that in there (crying face emoji). Real love (love heart emojis).”

The reaction continued to flood in on Osaka’s Instagram post, and she replied to Townsend saying, “I love you TT (laughing face and love heart emojis).”

What Naomi Osaka said about Jelena Ostapenko’s behaviour towards Taylor Townsend at the time

This is not the first time that Osaka has referenced the incident between Townsend and Ostapenko.

Ostapenko told Townsend that she had ‘no class’ and ‘no education’ after losing their second round match at the US Open.

This provoked a huge reaction, with Ostapenko heavily criticised for her behaviour and Osaka was also asked about the incident in one of her press conferences.

Osaka defended Townsend and claimed that Ostapenko’s comments were very far from the truth.

“I know Taylor and I know how hard she’s worked and I know how smart she is, so she’s the furthest thing from uneducated or anything like that,” Osaka said.

A few days after her exit from the tournament, Ostapenko did apologise for how she behaved towards Townsend.
