Japanese Street Food Paradise: Premium Wagyu Beef & other deliciousness at Oiseya Honpo ⛩ #isejingu

Just outside the gates of Ise Jingu,
Japan’s most sacred Shinto shrine, lies an amazing traditional hospitality district
that has hosted pilgrims and other travelers since back in the Edo era. In my opinion, there really
is no better place in Japan to enjoy street food, sample local beverages, and just stroll around
taking in the wonderful traditional atmosphere. In this series, I’ll be introducing a few
of my personal favorite foods and drinks. One of Mie Prefecture’s own premium brands is
Matsasaka beef. The top grade of Wagyu, known for its tender juiciness and perfectly marbled fat
content, you can usually only try Matsuzaka beef at high-end restaurants. But here you can try it
in a casual environment for a reasonable price. 松坂牛ですか? 牛肉の串1っ本で良いです。はい、お願いします。 900円。はい。 Well, there’s a lot more exploring to do and
delicious things to eat and drink. For that, check out my full-length Ise street food video. And stay tuned for more in that series. Thanks for watching!

Welcome to Ise! For thousands of years, travelers have come here from across the nation on pilgrimage to the sacred Ise Jingu. This tradition continues to the present day, although the reasons for visiting have undergone a secular shift. Cultual and historical significance aside, many “pilgrims” these days come here because it’s one of the best places in Japan to wander, soak up the traditional atmosphere and enjoy shopping, sightseeing, street food and other refreshments. Just outside the main Shrine, there is a traditional hospitality district that has served visitors since the Edo era. Officially called “Oharaimachi”おはらいまち, this area is generally referred to by the name of its lively, central district, “Okage-yokocho” おかげ横丁. In today’s video, we explore some of the delicious food and drinks that Oharaimachi has to offer. In my opinion, this really is the best place in Japan to enjoy street food and traditional Japanese hospitality culture. So let’s start exploring, starting with a classic Japanese confectionery: Introducing, Oiseya Honpo.お伊勢屋本舗

  1. The second short I’ve made based on my much longer video about Ise city’s traditional hospitality district known as Okageyoko-cho or Oharai-Machi. After this one, I think I need to focus on locally brewed… beverages. 😀
