Exploring Rural Japan by Train + Bus | Okayama → Miyoshi

[Music] Oh, I f. [Music] Okay, so I’ve made it to Okyama Station and I saw this like salad bar and I thought, “Okay, well, let’s eat something healthy and hopefully not be too expensive, but I just paid 1,600 yen for I think it’s 200 g of salad and 100 g of roast beef.” Now, to me, that’s so exy without the drink. By the way, I got this at 7-Eleven for 140 yen. So 1,600 um yen is probably like $1,450 or even like $15. $15 for this is pretty much what you’ll get like let’s say in Australia, right? Let’s get a bit of mushroom, some salad. [Music] All right. Well, it’s really really fresh. So all I can say is that it costs you to be a health here in Japan. But then again, in a lot of parts of the world, salads are usually expensive. It’s like they don’t want you to eat what’s good for you. [Music] [Music] All right. So, I just got off the train here at Kota station. Still got like maybe like 20 minutes to my next train, which is going to take me to Aada station. And then we had to wait like an hour for the bus to come and take me to my next accommodation. Now, from where I was in Okyama, it was going to cost me like 5,700 yen, I think, to um get to my next host and it was going to take like 2 hours and a half and whatnot, but been here for 11 days and I’ve spent pretty much almost 1,700 AUD. Yeah, it’s way too much. So, I need to slow down. So that’s I was like, “Okay, I’m not going to be catching, you know, shinkansen.” Also, I I’m saying $1,700 and that’s not including accommodation. Like that’s just $1,700 spending money. I think I’ve already spent like $700 on just transport in itself. Like I probably should have gotten the JR pass. For some reason, I thought you could only get it for 7 days. And I’m like, that’s going to be there for longer than that. So I could have gotten 21 days for just under a,000 bucks. Yeah. When I came here, I only had like $1,000 AUD with me anyway. and then just waiting for money to come in. Yeah, it probably wasn’t going to be the smartest move. I mean, I did spend like $1,500 just before coming here, like buying a camera and buying extra luggage and picking my seats. I’m kind of like going to start budgeting myself and, you know, not spend over like $100 max a day. I’m trying to travel the cheapest ways possible now. It’s might like double or triple the time that is going to take me to get to the location that I need to be, but if that has to be it, then I’m not going to say no to it. You know what I mean? All right, I’m just going to wait for the train and continue on my travels. [Music] Okay, so I’ve gotten to a kada station and there’s no like IC card readers here, so I just had to pay cash. It was like $1,200 yen, so like $11 to get here. I don’t know about how much the IC card’s going to going to charge me though because there was nowhere to tap out. But anyway, I’ve got some food and um I’m pretty hungry. So, got some ham, cucumber, egg, mayonnaise little sandwiches. Got a drink as well. Yuzu and lemon soda. [Music] Got two big pieces of fried chicken and some extra protein, yogurt. First time I’m going to try yogurt here in Japan. So, I’m hoping it’s really, really good. Um, and all that was 1,100 yen, so like 10 bucks. So, I got about like 40 minutes to the bus. So, kick back, enjoy my meal. [Music] Food tastes so much better when you’re hungry. My god. [Music] Okay. Well, let’s try this yogurt. I have a feeling that I’m going to be like, it tastes just the same as an Australian yogurt. Can’t even look. very simple to let’s taste this. Well, I’m surprised it’s actually different. I’ve had to stir it up because it had like little pieces of fruit on the bottom. [Music] Heat. [Music] Heat. [Music] made it. Oh man, the air con was left on here. So, it’s so nice right now. It’s like a 6-minute walk from the uh from the bus stop, but just lugging around like my laptop and the camera and It gets heavy, man. Like I’ve only got a few shirts and pants and a jumper and a jacket. Yeah, it’s a killer spot. [Music] Alec uh sent um sent the thumbnail. Well, he’s he’s working on the thumbnail for the video that we shot out in Nimban, which is testing our chronic video. It’s um it’s pretty much work, right? So, we shot this in Nimben uh earlier this month, I think. And we kind of want this video to be out by let’s say end of May. Now, today’s the 25th. So, I got to start start on this cuz like started the edit on the plane. So, what I do is I go through all the rough footage and then like pick the selects, right? Right. So, do a select kind of like timeline. Pick pick pick all the all the good bits that we’re going to use, separate them as like the audio bits like a- roll and also the B- roll. And then um work from that specific timeline. So, I’ve almost gone through all the videos. So, everything that I’ve recorded goes for an hour and 8 minutes. And I’m at 48 minutes. So, I still got 20 more minutes to go and then I have the selects ready. Right. Yeah. There’s a couple of rounds of this. So, I’m probably going to smash at 2 hours of this. And then I’m not even that hungry. So, might not have dinner, but um I got to go to sleep kind of like 11:00, 12 later cuz I got to be up by 7:00 cuz I got to catch the bus at 8 and head down to this vine bridge that I really want to check out. So, got to smash this real quick. Obviously, it’s the finals as well on the AL. So, I’m watching that on my phone and I’m trying to edit. And yeah, it’s 8:30. I work for 2 3 hours and then I put the laptop away and then get some sleep. Okay, back to the edits. [Music] in the mouth for a second. [Music]

Today’s vlog is a simple travel day as I make my way from Okayama to Miyoshi in rural Japan. I pack up my Airbnb, hop on a train to Kotohira Station, transfer to Awa-Ikeda, and finally catch a bus to reach my next stay. It’s not the most glamorous day, but it’s all part of the adventure of solo travel in Japan.

If you enjoy relaxed travel vlogs and seeing the everyday journey (not just the highlights), this one’s for you!
