Kyoto First Visit | Fushimi Inari Taisha, Nishiki Market, Bamboo Forest & More | Japan Vlog Part 5
Let’s go explore Kyoto. Good morning and welcome to the start of part five of my Japan travel series. If you’re just now tuning in, my husband Lucas and I are exploring Japan for a total of 2 weeks. It is our very first time here, and we’re really excited to bring you guys along on our adventures to Tokyo, Disney, Kyoto, and Osaka. Today’s video will be starting off with a day trip from Tokyo, followed by how we’ll be spending our day here in Kyoto. I was not able to vlog very much during the travel portion of today. I was just focused on trying to get us to the right train line at the right time. Today was our very first day experiencing the Japanese public transportation system and so there was a little bit of a learning curve there, but by the end of it, we feel like we kind of understand how things work. I am the furthest thing away from an expert, but I am happy to share how my experience went when traveling from Tokyo to Kyoto for the first time. Okay, so let me go ahead and rewind to the very beginning. We spent the last three nights over at Grand Niko, Tokyo Bay, Mahama, if you didn’t catch the first part of this Japan travel series. We did do a hotel room tour for our experience over at Grand Niko, but from there we had a 3minut walk over to the Bayside Station. The Bayside Station is part of the Disney Resort line, also known as the Disney Montreal line. So, we’re very familiar with Bayside Station after spending the last couple days over at Disney. We used our Suica cards that we downloaded into our Apple wallet, which highly recommend so that way you don’t have to use cash. We went ahead and loaded that up back at the hotel when we had stable Wi-Fi. Once we got onto the Montreal, we went ahead and got off at the resort gateway stop. From there, it’s another couple minute walk over to the Myama station. We use our speaker card again to get on the JR KO line. From there, it was another 15-minute ride over to the Tokyo station. It was a little bit of a scramble trying to figure out where the Shinkansen train lines were, but honestly, we kind of just followed the crowd and we were able to find the blue line that was the Tokaido Shinkansen that took us towards Osaka. Kyoto is one of the stops on the way to Osaka. Honestly, you don’t have to memorize these exact steps on how to get from Tokyo Disney to the Tokyo station. Google Maps worked really well for us and it made it really easy for us to follow the directions. We had about an hour before our bullet train, so I wanted plenty of buffer time just in case we got lost. We picked up a quick Starbucks just because it was convenient. And then we made our way over to our platform. Again, a lot of it was really intuitive and so it made it really easy for us to find our car, which was car 9, and it was a green car. We did splurge on the green car, which is kind of like their first class. That way we had a little bit bigger and more comfortable seats and it’s more likely to be quiet, which it definitely was. Overall, we really enjoyed our trip. The two hours really flew by for us. We left the Grand Niko Hotel around 7:30 a.m. and we arrived here in our hotel in Kyoto around 12:30. So, about 5 hours later, we finally made it here to our next destination. Now that I’ve caught you guys up on our travel day this morning, I’m happy to share that we are all checked in now here at our second hotel of the trip. For one night, we will be staying at the Daiwa Royette Hotel located right next to the Shijou Station. The lobby area was really clean, and there’s also a ton of complimentary amenities available to the guests. Our room isn’t anything spectacular, but it’s honestly perfect for just two adults who are only going to be here for one night. The biggest reason why we chose this hotel is for the location. The fact that it’s a couple minutes walk from the Shijou station made it really convenient for us. And it’s also a 10-minute walk over to the Nishiki Market, which is one of our top things that we want to see. And speaking of, we were actually planning on getting our lunch there. My understanding is that it is a long street filled with all types of different food stalls. As always, we will be bringing you guys along. Let’s go explore Kyoto. Heat. Heat. [Music] [Music] It was everything I ever imagined. We had the best time checking out all the different food stalls and the different snacks and treats and souvenirs. It was so much fun. Of course, it was definitely crowded given that it was lunchtime, but honestly, that was to be expected and it really didn’t dampen the experience for us. We just kind of went into it with those expectations and still enjoyed all of the different food. We also picked up a few souvenirs to bring back home. I’m going to go ahead and save those for our haul that I’m going to be sharing at the end of this Japan travel series. I’ve been picking up all kinds of souvenirs here and there, whether it’s Disney and now Kyoto, and I’m sure I’ll pick something up from Osaka and Tokyo as well, but I’m going to save all those for a separate video at the end of the series. So stay tuned for that if hauls are your thing. We did stop by the hotel again just to drop off the souvenirs that I had purchased so that way I didn’t have to carry them over to our next destination for the day, which is a destination that is on the very top of my musto in Kyoto list. And that is the Fushimi Inari Shrine, also known as the 10,000 Tory Gates. I’m so so excited to be able to see this. We’re gonna go ahead and jump on the subway again, and then afterwards, I think we’re going to grab dinner. So, that’s the plan. Let’s go. [Music] [Music] down. [Music] Good morning. It is the next day here in Kyoto. Yesterday we had a great time exploring the Fushimi Inari Shrine and seeing all of the beautiful Tory gates. And then we made our way over to dinner over at Sanga Ono Kyoto. We had the horse experience which included sashimi, pan fried dishes, some soup cooked in a really cool paper pot, and we also had some soba for the first time here in Japan, which I was excited to try. Everything was really great, and it was a really peaceful and quiet experience, which honestly was exactly what we were craving after spending the last couple days in Disney and traveling for 5 hours. It really was the perfect way to end the day. On the itinerary today is going to be the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, followed by the Kiom Misadera Temple, and then ending at the Sun Zaka Street for some shopping and some lunch. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] Heat. Heat. [Music] How was lunch? Great. I go back. 10 out of 10. No notes. [Music] [Applause] [Music] Checking in now that it’s been many hours later. We had a fantastic time exploring Kyoto. After we saw the Kio Mizadero Temple, we ended up walking over to the Sanenzaka Street. First stopped at the Starbucks just because of the iconic location and the design of the store. Went and found lunch over at a really good ramen place. It was the first experience using kind of like the vending machine to order. So, that was really fun. I would go back there again if we had time. For dessert, Lucas ended up trying the soy sauce mochi just cuz it was right around the corner from the restaurant. And then I ended up walking up the street to try the Tangulu, which is strawberry candy. It’s like a frozen strawberry candy and it’s so good. After our treats, we just continued to walk the Sanen Zaka street, just kind of taking in all the different stores, all the different sites, and of course, had to take a picture with the Yasaka Pagota. That’s pretty much a recap of our day in Kyoto. We ended up being a little tight on time to catch our bullet train to Osaka. We ended up taking a taxi to take us directly to our hotel to pick up our luggage and make our way over to the Kyoto station so that way we can head over to Osaka. And on that note, I will be ending the vlog here. This will be the end of the Kyoto portion of our Japan travel series, and I’ll be starting off the next one over in Osaka. So, thank you so much for joining us, and we will see you guys in Osaka for part six. [Music]
