Best 7 Places You NEED To Visit In Fukuoka (Quick Travel Guide)
If you’re anything like me, you’re always looking for that next adventure, that hidden gem that’s just waiting to be explored. Well, let me tell you, Fukuoka in Japan is one of those places that completely blew me away, and it might just do the same for you. Now, I’ve been lucky enough to travel all around the world. I’ve checked out Tokyo, Kyoto, Bali, and even done some time in Europe. But let me tell you, there’s something about Fukuoka that hits different. Whether you’re looking to dive into rich culture, experience the best food, or just get lost in a beautiful city with a perfect mix of old and new, Fukuoka has it all. First up, let’s talk about Ohi Park. This park is a peaceful escape right in the heart of the city with a stunning lake surrounded by walking paths, perfect for a relaxing stroll. It’s also where you can rent a boat and paddle around. Seriously, one of my favorite ways to spend an afternoon. It’s a bit of calm amidst the bustling city, and I promise you’ll love it. But hold on, because here’s where it gets really cool. Just a short walk from Ohi Park is Fukuoka Castle. This place is like a step back in time. The ruins of the castle are so picturesque and surrounded by lush greenery. You can climb up to the top and look out over the city, and trust me, the view is incredible. If you’re into history, this place will absolutely make you feel like you’re living in a samurai movie. Now, I couldn’t talk about Fukuoka without mentioning the food because let me tell you, this city is a food lover’s dream. Fukuoka is famous for its Hakata ramen, and you cannot leave without trying it. There’s a street near the canal where you’ll find tiny openair food stalls known as yatai. They serve up some of the best ramen I’ve ever had. Seriously, I’m still thinking about it. The atmosphere is incredible with locals and tourists all gathered together, slurping down noodles, and chatting away. It’s an experience in itself, not just a meal. If you’re into shopping, head to Canal City, Hakata. It’s like the shopping mall of your dreams. Huge with everything you could possibly want and then some. There’s even a fountain show that happens on the hour with music and lights that will make you feel like you’re in the middle of a movie. It’s one of those places that’s impossible not to enjoy. Whether you’re buying souvenirs, checking out the latest fashion, or just people watching, Fukuoka Tower is another must-see. Standing at 234 m, it’s the tallest seaside tower in Japan. The view from the top, absolutely spectacular. I went at sunset and the view of the city lights reflecting off the water was just breathtaking. It’s perfect for those Instagram shots, but even better for soaking in the stunning scenery. Now, here’s something a little unique. Fukuoka is also home to a vibrant local arts scene. And if you’re lucky enough to be there during one of their festivals, you’re in for a treat. The Hakata Gian Yamakasa Festival is a huge event in July. And trust me, you don’t want to miss it. The energy, the colorful floats, the crowds. It’s unlike anything I’ve seen before. If you’re into experiencing local culture, this is definitely the place to be. Finally, let me tell you about Desaiu Tanmongu Shrine. It’s just a short train ride from Fukuoka, but it feels like a whole different world. This shrine is dedicated to the god of learning, and you’ll see students from all over Japan coming to pray for good grades. The whole area is peaceful with beautiful gardens and stunning traditional architecture. Plus, it’s the perfect spot to reflect and take in the serenity of Fukuoka.
