The latest developments in blockchain technology will be showcased in Osaka at the 8th annual EDCON conference. International experts, major investors, major Japanese companies, and global startups will showcase cutting-edge blockchain innovations to Japanese businesses, practitioners, investors, and students. With the Prime Minister’s attendance at a crypto event in August, the Financial Services Agency’s approval of a yen-based stablecoin, and SBI’s partnerships with Circle, Ripple, and Startale to launch tokenized stocks, Japan is at the forefront of crypto innovation in Asia.
The conference will be held at Congrès Square Grand Green from September 16th to 19th. It is jointly organized by public sector partners such as the Osaka Innovation Center and businesses, and is expected to attract more than 6,000 developers, researchers, founders and policymakers.
“The arrival of EDCON in Osaka demonstrates our unwavering commitment to supporting local entrepreneurs and promoting the application of innovative technologies that will shape Osaka’s vibrant future,” said the Osaka Prefecture and the Osaka Business Development Bureau (Osaka Innovation Center). “These initiatives perfectly complement the recent developments in cryptocurrency regulation in Japan, uniquely positioning Osaka’s thriving business ecosystem to capitalize on new opportunities.”
EDCON will be held as part of the “Global Startup Crossroads Osaka” series of events, alongside the Global Startup Expo and other events during Expo 2025 Osaka-Kansai.
With the central and local governments investing resources in the Kansai Comprehensive Special Zone, the region, home to renowned universities in Osaka and Kyoto, has become a hotbed for entrepreneurship. The Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry has introduced a number of measures through its Five-Year Startup Development Plan to encourage the flourishing of innovative industries in Kansai.
