Kishiwada Castle 2025

Today, I’m heading to Kishiwada Castle in Osaka. I’ll get off at Takojizo Station on the Nankai Electric Railway. It’s about a seven-minute walk from the station to Kishiwada Castle . I’ll stroll around the castle town before heading to the castle. During the Sengoku period, Kishiwada Castle served as a base for the Kishu Conquest. In 1585, Hidemasa Koide, uncle of Hideyoshi Hashiba, became the castle’s lord. Hidemasa built a five-story castle tower in the main bailey and renovated it into a modern castle. This is Sannomaru Shrine, said to be the birthplace of the Kishiwada Danjiri Festival. A short walk later, I found the remains of a stone wall. At the time, this area was built along the coast for defensive purposes. This is where the Otemon Gate once stood. This area is the Ninomaru moat, known as Hyakkenbori. I’ll walk along the moat toward the main bailey. To the left of this was once a military supply warehouse. A replica Ninomaru Tamon Yagura tower is visible ahead. I’ve reached the inner moat. Ninomaru has been renovated and turned into a park. Up ahead, the Fushimi Tower once stood. There’s also a tourist exchange center in Ninomaru. Ninomaru and Honmaru are connected by an earthen bridge. The tower gate has been restored based on a drawing from the Edo period. Kishiwada Castle’s castle tower was rebuilt in 1954. In front of the castle tower is a dry landscape garden, designated a National Place of Scenic Beauty. The garden is based on the Eight Formations, said to have been used by Zhuge Liang. Now, let’s enter the castle tower. We’ve reached the top floor. Osaka Bay can be seen from here. On the left is Kishiwada City’s mascot, “Chikiri-kun.” This is the Eight Formations Garden from above. Let’s take a tour of Honmaru. Having toured everything, we’ll leave Honmaru behind. The Honmaru’s corner tower and Tamon Tower. Kishiwada Castle is famous for its curbside ramparts in the stone walls. This is Kishijo Shrine, the castle’s main shrine. Valuable samurai residences still remain. Thank you for watching.
