Incredible Views of Mt. Fuji: 48 Hours in Lake Kawaguchiko

Lake Kawaguchiko is hands down the best place to see Mount Fuji up close. In 48 hours, we soaked in non-stop incredible views of Mount Fuji and enjoyed a whole lot of delicious treats along the way. So, stick around and let us show you the spots you absolutely cannot miss. [Music] So, day one in Kawaguchi. We got here late last night. We are making our way to Hayoshi Nosato. I believe I’m pronouncing that right. First thing we did was take a quick 20-minute bus ride to the small scenic village of Aayashi Nosato. It’s a traditional Japanese cultural site with plenty of straw roof houses and even more incredible views of Mount Fuji. Fuji with the uh the canal and all the oldtimey uh straw roof houses. This is incredible. And on a perfect day, too. There’s so much to see here. You could spend all day walking around in awe of the scenery. But if you’ve watched my Tokyo video, you know that the first thing on Michaela’s mind once we got here was finding a cafe and getting some matcha. [Music] What do you think? Looks sharp. Cool. Looks really good. Pretty cool. Aren’t these comfortable? Yeah, they’re actually really comfy. They’re super comfy. And they’re so padded and warm. This cafe was incredible. We were able to wear kimonos and relax in their tatami room, drink some delicious coffee and matcha, and best of all, try out some dango skewers with some pretty interesting flavors to say the least. You’re ready. Good. M soy sauce. I was expecting that to be like sweet and caramelly, but it was just pure soy sauce. This dango had a red bean paste on it, which is called auki. It was one of our favorites. Mhm. It’s creamy. That was delicious. After leaving the cafe, we said hello to Mount Fuji once again, took an enormous amount of pictures, and it wasn’t long before Michaela found an ice cream stand. Best thing in the world. Ice cream. Matcha ice cream. And boom. Nothing gets better than this. Every time I look at it, it’s just like I see it for the first time. It’s just beautiful. I’m looking at it right now and was so happy we’re here. [Music] Okay, we just got off the train at Shimoay Yoshida station. We’re heading to the Chara Pagod for sunset and it’s a race against the clock because the sun is currently setting. So, we’re walking as fast as we can and we hope that we can make it cuz the views are supposed to be immaculate. Sorry, it’s a 400 stair climb all the way to the top. And it doesn’t help with the fact that we’re rushing, so we can’t take a break or slow down at all. Hopefully, the views pay off. But this is, man, this is killer so far. Now, don’t let our rushing and heavy breathing discourage you from doing this. You know what they say, the harder the climb, the better the view. Oh my god, I see the pagota. We’re just about there. I can hardly breathe, but it’s worth the it’s worth the climb. That was absolutely deadly. Hopefully the clouds will move. After a full day of completely clear skies, we’re now seeing the first cloud cover the tip of Mount Fuji. I’m out of breath. [Music] Oh my god. I think the cloud might be starting to move. It’s so pretty. Now, as beautiful as Fuji is, there was something else that caught my attention, and I just had to investigate. There were snow monkeys at the Pagota. Although I know Japan has monkeys, I hadn’t really thought about the possibility of them at all. So, this was an awesome surprise, and they were so cool to watch, even just for a few minutes. [Music] Okay, the clouds are almost completely gone. It looks just spectacular. It’s beautiful. And the surprise was there’s monkeys. We didn’t even know there was monkeys here. I’m staying away from the monkey, though. He said it was mad. So, I’m staying a little aggressive right now. I think people are getting a little too close. But, uh, so cool to see regardless. Just enjoy this view. Yeah. Getting to watch the sunset at the Pagota was the perfect way to wrap up day one. We spent time exploring a traditional village. We ate dango and drank matcha. Definitely got our step count in and even got to see monkeys. Oh my god, it just never ceases to get better. It’s so much cooler. Every different angle we take and every every extra 15 minutes of darkness, it just gets so cool. It’s amazing. It’s so nice. I’m glad we got to see it. Amazing. [Music] I’m going to consider this a absolute success. This was so awesome. Even cooler than in the pictures, of course, more than what we were expecting. So, this is just fantastic. [Music] Okay, our last day in Lake Kawaguchi. We are officially renting bikes. This is going to be super fun. We’ve got the bikes for about 10 hours, so we’re going to make the most of it. And we’ll see some really great views of Fuji. [Music] Stop number one. Let’s go. [Music] One number one and then one number two. You know the deal by now. Traveling with Michaela means spending half of my time getting hot drinks and little treats. So the first stop on our bike trip was this beautiful flower themed cafe. It was like Michaela died and went to heaven. [Music] It’s a kinko filling in a pancake. M. Let’s try. [Music] That’s so good. Oh my god. Wow. Wow. [Music] Second stop on our bike trip is the maple corridor. Looks beautiful. The leaves are red. Seems like we came here at the perfect time of fall. Check it out. The maple corridor is the perfect spot to check out the fall colors, and it’s probably the most popular spot in all of Lake Kawaguchi to do so. But what makes it even better is that at this time of the year, it’s right next to the Autumn Leaves Festival Food Market. We could smell the sizzling skewers as we walked by, and we definitely had to stop for some food while soaking in the fall vibes. I have beef skewer. This looks so good. Oh my god, I’m making a mess. It’s really good. Have some mochi with um I don’t even know, like a sweet soy sauce. It’s really good. M. Okay, we’re in the middle of eating and Fuji’s been hiding all morning, but check this out. Fuji has just made her first somewhat full appearance of the day. And you can see the crowds of people rushing to take pictures. Renting a bike is one of the coolest things we’ve done so far. Just get such a on the ground view. Trust me, if you’re in Lake Keluch, rent a bike. It’s honestly the best way to explore the area and really take in everything it has to offer at your own pace. And our next stop was picking up some delicious souvenirs at Fujiamaki. [Music] All right, just finished that Fujiamyama cookie. We got some goodies here. Check this out. We got three boxes of cookies. These ones are chocolate and Earl Grey. These ones are strawberry, I think. Strawberry and cherry. Chocolate. Strawberry and chocolate. Oh, and then green tea and chocolate. Little souvenirs. All right, we’re here at Kawico Cheesecake Garden. [Music] All right. So, we got our fluffy cheesecake. Looks delicious. And with every slice of cheesecake, you also get a cup of coffee. So, I’m very happy about that. M Japanese cheesecake. Cheesecake is already good enough. And they just leveled it up. Okay, we just parked our bikes to go out for dinner and look who decided to show up. Amazing. Looks so so so so beautiful. Mount Fuji looked incredible. As we made our way to dinner, the kind of view that never really gets old. We went to Hot, an authentic local spot famous for its udon. Inside it was noisy and busy, more than we bargain for, but in the best kind of way. [Music] Looks so good. [Music] I think we ordered too much food. Definitely could have done away with one pot each. Let’s give it a shot. Hot. Delicious though. Soup is so delicious. It’s like It’s like a chicken noodle soup, but make it Japanese. You get a huge portion size though. So, if you do plan on coming here, maybe one bowl for two people would be just quite quite right. So full, right? It was delicious. Eight. Okay, as if dinner wasn’t good enough, we just got outside of the restaurant and Mount Fuji looks incredible. The nicest it’s looked all day. Check this out. It looks incredible. [Music] The sun went down pretty fast, so we biked back in the dark. But even at night, the views just didn’t stop. Look at this. Look at this. It looks so freaking cool. Fuji at night felt magical. And the next morning, it was still there. Just as breathtaking as we rolled our bags to catch the bus. Say goodbye to Fuji. Bye, Fuji. Okay, last day in Fuji. We are heading to Kyoto now. Getting one last look at the volcano. It’s just such a sight to see every single time we look at it. I’ll never ever get used to that view. [Music]
