Trying Japan’s famous wall of sake vending machines in Niigata Station! 🇯🇵
Oh my god. Nigata is kind of boring, but if you head to the train station, you’ll find an unassuming sake shop. Inside the shop, tucked in the back corner, you’ll find a wall of sake vending machines. Pay the person at the counter 500 yen, and they’ll give you five tokens for you to choose any sake you want. We didn’t really know what we were doing, so we kind of just picked some out at random. And then you push the yellow button. 15%, by the way. Oh my god. You probably meant to sip it. Really? Yeah. Wow. It’s really smooth. You can taste the berries. It’s definitely very good. So elegant. That’s strong. I don’t want to do it. Do it. Okay. Different salts. I’m just going to do it. It’s just like a tequila shot, only way worse. As you can probably tell, this was my first time trying sake. So, this ended up being a pretty good way to realize that I don’t really like it. Still fun.
After a couple days in Niigata, we’d already exhausted our options for things to do, so we thought why not try out this wall of sake vending machines. Honestly, it was really fun trying out the different styles but… I’ll stick to beer.
