Food tour in Osaka, Japan! Three Trips to Osaka / I Enjoyed Nine Local Dishes
This time, I went on a gourmet food tour of Osaka. Despite being short on time, I made the most of my free time to enjoy local cuisine. I visited a wide variety of restaurants, from classic takoyaki to more unique spots. Please watch until the end! This time, I’m bringing you three videos titled “A Little Trip from Osaka.” I usually upload videos of me eating my way around the country. However, there are days when I rush back home without having time to relax and enjoy a meal. This time, I’ll be sharing a short video of such a trip. Well, I’ve arrived at Shin-Osaka! Today, I’m planning to meet up with someone from Tokyo in the afternoon. Although I only have a little time, I’ll eat first. I took the subway for about 20 minutes and arrived at Tennoji Station. Today, I went to a restaurant called “Yamachan Honten.” I’d heard their takoyaki was delicious, so I was looking forward to it. However, they’re currently experiencing a large number of takeout orders, so they’re not sure when it will be ready. There is a branch nearby, but it’s temporarily closed. Since I didn’t have much time, I decided to give up on the specialty, but I wanted to satisfy my hunger with something. So, I started looking around and found “Yamaya” nearby. It’s not connected to Osaka, but I didn’t have much time before my meeting, so I decided to eat there. This restaurant has its main branch in Fukuoka. They serve the lunch menu. I felt safe knowing they have a branch in Tokyo. I ordered the ginger pork set meal (1,300 yen). I was interested in the mentaiko-flavored fried chicken, but I love pork ginger pork. Another great thing about “Yamaya” is that it. Offers all-you-can-eat spicy mentaiko and takana (green mustard greens) . Well, I’m running out of time, so let’s get started. The miso soup was delicious… and I was glad I could eat rice, lol. The sauce was well-absorbed into the meat. This made me want to eat a lot of rice. After eating the mentaiko, the rice would disappear in no time. Amazingly, they offer refills on rice. The takana were also delicious. I didn’t have time to go around the restaurants today, so I decided to fill up here. By the way, I was thinking of eating about two plates of takoyaki, lol. I unexpectedly filled up on Fukuoka specialties, but good food is good after all♪ I also had some mentaiko chazuke (spicy cod roe rice porridge) made with dashi broth at the end. Unfortunately, time was up. I was pretty close by when I entered the restaurant. I hurriedly finished my meal and left, regretting that I should have left 15 minutes earlier. Really, I enjoyed Fukuoka… I’ll definitely go back to my hometown. Of course, there are days like this, lol. I’m full, so I’ll head to work! After work, I’ll probably grab something to eat before heading home. Anyway, we split up and headed to Namba. I wasn’t planning on eating that much today, so I’ll head home early. I was asked to bring a souvenir today. I went to 551 Horai Ebisubashi Main Branch for the first time in a while. I think the line here is shorter than at the Shin-Osaka branch. I also bought the classic pork buns, chimaki, and shumai♪ I was thinking of buying that and then heading to Shin-Osaka for dinner, but… Wow, that looks delicious. I think I’ll eat here today. I hesitated, but when I saw it, I couldn’t resist, lol. The “Standard Dim Sum Set” would be nice, too… But the beef belly in particular caught my eye in the display case. I was torn between beef belly fried noodles, but I went for the fried rice. Wow, it looks just as I expected. So shiny. This is definitely delicious♪ I also ordered some spring rolls (400 yen). Okay, let’s start with the soup. Delicious… A comforting taste after work. The fried rice looks good too. Yes, it’s delicious♪ The fried rice has a moist flavor. This dish alone is enough to satisfy me. And then there’s the beef belly, which I’ve been wanting to try. It’s delicious, meaty and satisfying♪ It seems to go well with the moist fried rice. The sauce that coats the vegetables is also delicious♪ I love the crunchy bok choy. This is a combination I’d like to eat every day. And the spring rolls. What a sound! Light and crispy. Packed with ingredients. Savor the oozing fat and sweetness. After finishing off this classic Chinese dish nonstop… I also ordered almond tofu for dessert (330 yen). Cool and rich. Definitely worth eating at the restaurant. I thoroughly enjoyed the Chinese cuisine at “551.” Thank you for the meal! Very satisfied… ahh, delicious. Finally, I got to try an Osaka specialty. Okay, time to head home! I vowed to try takoyaki next time I come back. Well, there’s only one place to go today. I’ll have a quick lunch. I’m currently at Namba Station on the Nankai Line. The place I’m heading to now might be the perfect place to grab a bite to eat between work, lol. It’s located inside the Nankai Line ticket gate on the second floor. My destination is behind this heavy-looking door. The entrance door reads, “No entry except for cafeteria patrons and authorized personnel.” This is the Nankai Electric Railway employee cafeteria, known as the “Namba School Lunch Center.” However, it’s apparently open to the general public as well. I’d seen it in other videos and was curious, so I decided to stop by. All the menu items are reasonably priced, and employees get even cheaper prices. This time, I ordered the tonkotsu soy sauce ramen (280 yen). Even the regular price is pretty cheap! The meal ticket is handed over on a tray. They also have a variety of side dishes. Staff distinguish between employees and other customers by the color of their trays. Apparently, employees are given priority during busy times. I’ve been waiting for this! It’s topped with naruto and char siu, and it looks delicious. Let’s get started. Yes, it’s delicious! It has the milky flavor of tonkotsu ramen. The accompanying noodles are also delicious, with the soup clinging to them. Come to think of it, it’s been a while since I’ve had ramen. I was once invited to the employee cafeteria when I was visiting a client’s company. I remember being envious of the cheaper prices for employees. It seems they still cater to both employees and regular customers. Before I knew it, I’d finished the ramen. It was quick and perfect for work. Thank you for the meal! I was a little nervous at first, but it was a fun experience, like sneaking into the back of the Nankai Electric Railway. By the way, the employee cafeteria is located inside the ticket gate. Those who just want to use the cafeteria are welcome to use it. Okay, now that I’ve enjoyed my lunch, I’m ready to work hard this afternoon! Anyway, I came to Shin-Osaka Station this morning again. I’ll be working in Osaka this afternoon and heading to Okayama in the evening. So, I was about to transfer to the subway, but… As I got off the escalator, something caught my eye. “Nakanoshima Beef Sandwich.” I’ve been curious about this shop every time I pass by it. Apparently, they only have a limited quantity available today, and many people around me are also considering it. So I bought it first (half size/720 yen). I’ll eat it on the evening Shinkansen. After exiting the ticket gate, I put my suitcase in a locker and decided to leave it there until the evening. Now that I was light, I took the Midosuji Line south. Since I have plenty of free time this time, I’m going to do a lot of food walking around♪ Anyway, I’ve arrived at Tennoji Station. Speaking of Tennoji, for me, it’s takoyaki first and foremost! So, for me, it’s been about a year since I’ve been there, and for the viewers, it’s been about 10 minutes since they’ve been there. I’m back at “Yamachan Main Store” again! There are so many different flavors. Apparently the “Best (no flavor)” is recommended, but… I wanted something rich today, so I ordered the “Young (sauce and mayonnaise)” (820 yen). They also have takeout today, so it will take a little while. Of course, I’ll wait. I’ve been waiting for a year, lol. Looking back, though, this shop really is an old one. It’s located under Abeno Harukas, the tallest building in Japan. Surrounded by buildings, this yellow shed stands out. I wandered around while I waited. Their branch at Tennoji North Exit was open today. Yamaya is still going strong. Come to think of it, I haven’t been there in Tokyo since then, lol. And then, the takoyaki I’ve been longing for♪ This is what I wanted… Everyone was eating it next to the shop. Now, let’s eat it hot♪ I struggled to lift it… It’s hot! It’s really hot. The hot, gooey batter spread throughout my mouth all at once. The surface is quite firm. The broth is quite strong, so it doesn’t seem like it needs any seasoning. I’d previously tried plain takoyaki at Aizuya, the original takoyaki shop. But the rich sauce and mayonnaise were delicious. The octopus was plump and tender, and the fragrant aroma whetted my appetite. My mouth burned as I savored this Osaka specialty. It was a year-long feast, and I’m so happy! Well, I’ve got more to offer today. I also went to Meijiya, one of Japan’s top three bars. I walked west across the pedestrian deck in front of the station for about 10 minutes. I really like this area , too. Its tidy atmosphere reminds me a bit of Shibuya. My next stop was the specialty of a ramen shop run by a ramen shop. That ramen shop is Ramen Goku Honten. However, today I’m heading to a branch a little further down the road. And I ended up at Charai Goku. I was curious about this mysterious Nishinari specialty, Charai, so I decided to try it. Besides the plain version, there were other varieties like shrimp and octopus, so I was a little torn. I decided on the “charai” (990 yen) topped with Nishinari offal. First came the complimentary kimchi. This was the star of the “charai” dish. A mountain of egg covered with a generous amount of Nishinari offal. And inside was fried rice. It was guaranteed to be delicious. Wow, so good! The egg was so soft and creamy. The fried rice was so moist, I could eat as much as I wanted with the egg. Apparently, “charai” is short for “char siu rice.” You could add cheese to the egg for free. I was asked this when I handed over my ticket. The offal was also delicious. I wonder if it was marucho? The texture and sweet fat were fantastic. Nishinari has had a slaughterhouse since before the war, and apparently offal from there was a popular food source. By the way, I’ll be eating the offal tempura I had in Hiroshima and offal udon I’ll be eating in Okayama later. It seems that when offal becomes a specialty in an area, it’s often linked to a slaughterhouse. They also have a wide variety of items to go with the “Charai.” The egg is lightly seasoned, but adding the sauce adds richness. It’s also perfect with the innards sauce. The punch of wasabi is addictive. I’ll forgive the garlic, even though I’m at work. I can’t resist it, lol. But when the garlic sauce of the “Charai” gets smelly… I’ve heard that people from Osaka just say, “It can’t be helped”. The restaurant was packed with office workers. It was just my lunch break. If this was in my hometown, I’d definitely stop by… I finished it in no time. It was so delicious… I felt incredibly satisfied after leaving the restaurant. Incidentally, “Ramen Goku” also serves “Charai,” but it doesn’t seem to offer any toppings. Next, I headed to Janjan Yokocho, located near Dobutsuenmae Station. This area is also known as “Shinsekai.” Going through this tunnel reminds me of “Spirited Away.” The restaurant I was looking for was located in a corner of this shopping street. The place is a coffee shop called “Sennariya Coffee,” and right across the street I found a sushi restaurant called “Daiko Sushi”. They serve affordable sushi starting at 150 yen for three pieces, and the atmosphere seems nice. So, before stopping off at Sennariya Coffee, I decided to check out their main branch, which is right nearby. Most people in the restaurant were drinking alcohol with their sushi. I ordered oolong tea (200 yen). Drinking at work is not allowed, lol. I wrote my order down on a piece of paper. They served three pieces at a time. First, I ordered “Striped Horse Mackerel (100 yen)” and “Hamachi (Yellowtail) (300 yen). ” Apparently they didn’t have three pieces of “Striped Horse Mackerel,” so they made me just the one piece they had left. I also ordered miso soup (150 yen). I always crave soup. So delicious. And the striped horse mackerel. Wow, so good! The chewy texture was amazing. I’m glad I could have just one piece. The yellowtail was sweet and delicious. This one also had a nice crispy texture. Next was today’s recommended salmon (300 yen). It was fatty and delicious. 300 yen for all this is a bargain. The laid-back lunch atmosphere is also great. Everyone seemed to be having fun, and it would be nice to frequent a place like this on a day off. Finally, although it was a little early, I indulged in some fatty tuna (2 pieces for 500 yen). I wanted to try this too. It was rich and melt-in-your-mouth. I quickly enjoyed some delicious sushi. Anyway, since I’ve made a detour, I headed to my original destination, Sennariya Coffee. This place is said to be the birthplace of Osaka’s specialty, “mixed juice.” I’d wanted to stop by when I was nearby before. It was temporarily closed at the time, but I finally managed to get in this time. Naturally, I decided to order the mixed juice. Today, I decided to go with the luxurious Royal Mixed Juice. There were many other items on the menu that caught my eye, including cream soda. And finally, the long-awaited Royal Mixed Juice arrived. It was packed with fruit. I started right away. It was delicious! ♪ Rich and luxurious. Apparently it’s a blend of five different fruits, including apples, bananas, and yellow peaches. The crushed ice added a nice crunch. Of course, the cut fruit was also delicious! Sennariya’s predecessor was a fruit store. Founded in 1948 (Showa 23), the shop has a classic, relaxed atmosphere. Surprisingly, the restaurant’s clientele is mostly young. Sennariya’s sweets and food are apparently delicious, so I’d like to try their food next time. I thoroughly enjoyed the original fruit juice. Thank you for the meal! I hope they continue to serve you for many years to come. There are many other restaurants in Janjan Yokocho. Actually, there’s a famous kushikatsu restaurant, and I was considering Daiko Sushi, but I thought kushikatsu might be too strong without alcohol, so I decided against it. lol. Okay, let’s get to work! We took a walk toward Tsutenkaku and headed to the meeting place. Well, I’ve finished my business at Osaka Station, so I’m heading back to Shin-Osaka Station, even though it’s a little early. All I have left to do is catch the Shinkansen, but I think I’ll have an early dinner. I’m at “Eki Marche” inside Shin-Osaka Station. There’s a food court with several restaurants. I went to “Beefsteak Rice and Meat Rice Romantei.” I was attracted by the appearance of the steak. I ordered their specialty, “Nishikiju,” which is a combination of beefsteak and meat rice (1,150 yen). Here it is! Wow, it’s luxurious. They apparently use meat carefully selected by a meat wholesaler in Osaka. Okay, let’s eat. Delicious! The meat is chewy, which is nice. The sauce that coats the meat and rice is also delicious. I think I’ll finish this in no time. The thinly sliced meat was also tender. The fat was sweet and delicious♪ I probably should have ordered a large portion of rice. I’ll have some ramen when I get to Okayama. By the way, the store’s headquarters is in Osaka, but the company name is “Okayama Food Service” and the president is from Okayama. I felt a sense of fate as it coincidentally overlaps with the place I’m about to go to lol. Ahh, it was delicious. I think I got to eat plenty of Osaka specialties this time. Anyway, I’m heading to Okayama now, so I’ll go and collect my suitcase. That’s all for today. Please check back next time!
