Yashimagahara Marsh is one of Japan’s representative high moor wetlands, covering a total area of 43.2 hectares (107 acres). Surrounded by numerous hiking trails, it attracts many hikers during spring, summer, and autumn.

Kurumayama’s western side is home to Kirigamine, a relatively gentle plateau whose terrain makes it ideal for the formation of updrafts, creating excellent conditions for glider flights. In the middle of the grasslands lies a glider port, and if you’re lucky, you may catch sight of gliders soaring through the sky.

Mount Kuruma (Kurumayama) is the highest peak in the Kirigamine area, standing at 1,925 meters (6,315 feet). In winter it offers skiing, while in other seasons it is a popular hiking spot. From Kurumayama-Kata, the summit can be reached in about 40 minutes on foot, or you can take a chairlift up from Kurumayama Kogen. From the top, the 360-degree panoramic view is simply spectacular.

Lake Shirakaba is an artificial lake created in the 1940s to secure agricultural water. It is surrounded by hotels, an amusement park, and ski resorts, making it a popular destination for families.
