Nagoya’s such an easy stop on the bullet train between Tokyo and Kyoto or Osaka. It’s only an hour and a half from Tokyo. If you want a hotel at the station, the Nagoya JR Gate Tower Hotel is really convenient, with spacious rooms, lots of amenities, stunning views of the city, and you can even see the trains and the shinkansen at the station! In this video, there’s a room tour, overview of what’s nearby, a quick look at things to do in Nagoya and we try the breakfast buffet. There are so many options, including Japanese and western style breakfasts, and we tried some local specialities from Nagoya.

These types of info videos are the best – thank you ππ
Nagoya Marriott Hotel was so good, but JR Gate Tower Hotel is also wonderful. π
I'm also looking forward to the video of Takayama. π
The train window from Nagoya to Takayama was amazing, and also the hybrid limited express train is comfortable. ππ
Ha! I love that you pointed out the garbage cans in the station as "a rare sight in Japan".. Indeed! π€£
Great, still got to do this year's trip and now I'm already starting to add ideas for next year π
By the way, if you like railway diorama's and you want something that is a little bit closer to home (but still not a daytrip!), make sure you visit Miniature Wunderland in Hamburg Germany some day if you haven't already.
Thank you Amy for taking us on a short trip to Nagoya π. The hotel looks really good: the room is big and modern, and the breakfast buffet seems great. The best thing however is definitely the view ! I would be like you, spending a lot of time on the seat by the window, enjoying the view. We had a similar situation in Tokyo, with amazing views of Tokyo Tower and a seat by the window. I ended up spending most of the night there, and took about 10 Million pictures ;-).
P.S. we will be in Nagoya for the first time next March, and I am really looking forward to the SCMaglev museum. Have you been to the Toyota Commemorative Museum of Industry and Technology ? If yes, how did you like it ?
How did you get yourself in the diorama at the museum? That's so fun!
I only need one simple reason to go to Nagoya. UNAGI !!!!!!
This is exactly what I was looking for! Wanted a hotel with a view and was thinking the Meitetsu Grand was my best bet but it looks like it's hard to beat Nagoya JR Gate Tower!
Great video keep it up
I have my comparison with APA Hotel Asakusa-Kumarae breakfast and lunch in one morning π.
https://youtu.be/tQn6zIFRoX4?si=LUIWTOa-PJiEtQ7G Amy,terrible news! Air Canada π¨π¦ are going to strike today! Don't worry about me, I found the route from Toronto to Tokyo easily, but either British Airways(London stops)or Air France(Paris CDG) using Expedia App or go to the website.
https://youtu.be/vz6GkzJtQoM?si=6-XccUwfZmYQPeM- Amy, more Air Canada π¨π¦ flights cancellations before the strike.
I have a flight back to Tokyo in early December.
I might stop in Nagoya too. π
Nagoya looks pretty amazing!
We stayed there in Nagoya, loved sitting at the window seat watching the sunset βΊοΈ Was the little robot security guard still roaming around outside the hotel entrance talking to itself?
As always LOVE your videos. Question: did I misshear you that they do NOt have food/snack trollies anymore on the Shinkansen? Thatβs too bad if true
That breakfast buffet made me hungry! Nagoya is on my list of cities for my next trip, mostly for the car museum.
We didn't stay long at Nagoya, but I really loved the vibe of the city! It felt less touristy, in a way I can't tangibly explain.
I love red bean paste … I would love to try ogura when I'm in Nagoya if ever I'm in the neighborhood
The telephone ring at the shinkansen always gets me!
Long time watchers & recent subscribers here with our first question and hope it hasn't been asked toooo many times!! WHY havn't you moved to Japan yet??? 15 years back and fourth 14 hour flights!!! We've been once! With our second already booked & just couldnt imagine THAT MUCH time in the Air! We're definitely moving there one day! <3 Love yourr channel, Love yourr hair, you look great wearing Yellow!! (previous videos) Thank you!
I am in love with all trains in general and Japan trains in particular and what experience is better than staying in a hotel room, overlooking the Shinkansen trains ! Once, I had this opportunity to stay in a traditional hotel in Japan with a magnificent train station view in one of the mountainous countrysides of Tokyo …π
The Shinkansen coffee is very good. That hotel looks great. We love watching trains! Unfortunately, every date I looked at was over $300 US per night. Same for the Marriott Associa Hotel. I'll check again once our actual Nagoya trip dates open up. But, we'd rather not spend so much. We need money for gashapon!
I'm looking forward to my Nagoya trip next year.
Thank you for another video. Although they don't have the trolleys anymore, can you still order whilst on the train and they deliver it to you? I believe that is what we did in 2023. Wow look forward to the next video of the walk through the trail and town. Looks like a modern cozy hotel.. We are the same we do not normally book a hotel with breakfast as we also enjoy going to local shops and using a ticket machine. In saying that our next trip we are getting breakfast at most of our hotels and also staying at an ryokan where we have a Japanese breakfast and Kaiseki dinner. Cannot wait. Love your hat Phil!!!! owwww coffee Jelly, must try it. That sandwich looks so nice, I love my red bean taiyaki but never tried it with the cream cheese. Hopefully on another trip and we don't plan to stop in Nagoya this time.
man, Nagoya always gives me horror flashbacks lol! You know by now I usually go to Japan for concerts, for some reason my fav singer LOVES Nagoya (which is funny bc born in Amagasaki and lives in Tokyo) and pretty sure EVERY time I have been in Nagoya I get lost. One time, google maps decided I was in CANADA and I got off the bus messaging a friend like "HOW THE F- DO I FIGURE OUT WHERE TO GO? ;_;" and she thought I was crazy with the whole Canada thing and making it up coz I got lost (fair. Even with maps, I'm VERY liable to get lost lol) but then SHE went to Nagoya and maps decided she was in Minnesota like "SEE? I'M NOT CRAZY!"
Another time, I was trying to get to the bus station and was like "I'll follow signs, maps ALWAYS fails me in Nagoya" You know how from the JR station there's 2 bus stations, Meitetsu and the other one? I only saw signs for one and followed those signs and got to COMPLETELY the wrong place then couldn't get back out lol. I spent like 30 mins trying to get OUT and where I wanted to be!
So yeah, Nagoya and me are NOT friends but at least some fun stories lol
We stayed at the JR Gate four weeks ago – watching your video I am already missing it and Japan! Did you guys see the security robot patrolling outside the JR Gate Hotel entrance, such a Japan experience! Unfortunately our room faced away and we didn't get a station view – however we did stay at the Miyako City Kintetsu Kyoto Station in Kyoto … only a few floors up and had a window right onto the Shinkansen platforms, it was so close it was a phenomenal experience for train enthusiasts … so I thought I would mention!
Nice one JR for looking after Amy & Phil. Itβs nice to be noticed for all the hard work you put in guys π
That breakfast buffet is getting me all kinds of hungry!
Reakly infornative videp. Thank youm β€ I m visiting Nagoya soon and been many times. I always wondered how anyone can give an impartial review when the hotel has given you free stays?!
Congrats on small you and Phil being immortalised in the museum!
Have you noticed any price increases for you when you are there? anymore than the usual increased fees over time?
If someone had asked me what were my enduring favourite experiences of Japan, they and I would be surprised that my reply remains Japanese breakfast and Nagoya! Captured brilliantly in this great video. Thanks! Now where is my credit card and passport?
I really liked Nagoya as a city to explore. We went for Ghibli Park but spent a lot of time exploring the city afterwards.
I would like to say thank you for your videos. Just came home yesterday and my wife and I had a great time in Japan
Wow, the view is amazing indeed! I stayed at the Marriot two times, might as well try to get a room in this hotel and on the station view side. Could watch that all night!
And day of course. π
Wish could afford that hotel its beautiful my son went to school in Nagoya I spent 2 weeks there but took day trips mostly loved the castle didnt see much of Nagoya will go again I stayed 3 hotels mostly budget range .
We stayed at the JR Gate hotel in Jan. Room was nice, and a great view to watch the trains coming and going. We had to leave early, so didn't get to try the buffet breakfast π
If you are still in Nagoya go to a pub called The Curragh, it's a tiny Irish pub around a two minute walk from the Ferris wheel (assuming it's still there).
That breakfast buffet was amazing! We'd stayed at the Prince Nagoya as it boasted having rooms for train fans due to similar views, but it didn't have a breakfast buffet, that looks amazing! I never managed to get Ogura toast whilst we were there, I love that they had coffee jelly available never seen that at a breakfast buffet before! If you enjoy it, it's really easy to make, you can use vegetarian leaf gelatin that you mix into some freshly brewed coffee! Real simple βΊοΈ
I hiked the Nakasendo trail when I went to Japan, enroute from Tokyo to Kyoto. Might hike around Mt Haguro on the way to Hokkaido and northern Honshu
I stayed here last year. Absolutely amazing hotel and so convenient being right next to the station.
Did you see the robot strolling around outside of the main entrance?
Great video Amy I found it very interesting and quite emotive, in a good way as I'm looking to return to Japan in April and looking forward very much. I loved the Mt Fuji insert (I never managed to see it last time) but most importantly your yellow and black skirt was adorable
What an incredible hotel breakfast! I'm blown away!
