Snacking your way around Little Tokyo on a Saturday morning is always a journey of joy.

You might start off with some chicken karage, or a few servings of mochi, or a bun bursting with red beans and umami flair.

Now a new Saturday stalwart, one that is savory, sweet, and full of community spirit, will draw visitors and locals to Isamu Noguchi Plaza.

It’s the Little Tokyo Farmers’ Market, a produce-filled destination opening Aug. 30.

The market will put “… an emphasis on Japanese American purveyors to honor the community’s long-standing history and significant contributions to American agriculture” as well as a host of great regional farms.

Those farms include Tamai Farms, Yamabushi Farms, and Shigeru Nursery, as well as Hernandez Brothers Family Farm and Henry’s Farms.

“This market is about more than just great produce,” says Jennifer Grissom, Executive Director of Food Access LA.

“It’s about bringing people together in the heart of Little Tokyo, connecting neighbors with local farmers, supporting small businesses, and creating a space where food, culture, and community thrive side by side.”

Patricia Wyatt, President & CEO of the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center, spoke about the market’s team-up with Food Access LA.

“We are thrilled to partner with Food Access LA to host the Little Tokyo Farmers’ Market on our historic plaza. JACCC has always been committed to nurturing our neighborhood with enriching experiences and events.”

“In addition to all of the wonderful farmers and food-makers, we’re particularly excited about the artisans and makers that will share a piece of Japanese culture with others.”

Special opening festivities will help launch the Aug. 30 market in lively and fun fashion; check the market’s social feed for more information.
