Star Wars Celebration Tokyo and Japan 2025 Tour Day 9
It’s only been a few months, but we’re back. This time we’re here to attend the Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo! Since we’re here though, we might as well explore a little more of Japan.
The day started off pouring rain! The 2 things that I wanted to check out in Sendai [仙台] were outdoors! What to do? Swap the schedule around!
We started by visiting Shiroishi Castle [白石城]. This old castle is still standing, and it’s kind of a miracle that it’s still standing. Miyagi prefecture [宮城県] is one of the few, if not only, areas that has 2 castles in it’s domain.
Yes, Aoba / Sendai castle is ruins, but during those times when it was still standing, it Masamune Date needed special permission to have 2 castles in his domain.
Next, we went to the Kokeshi Museum [こけし館]. This famous doll from the Miyagi area is one that they take pride in. Although it is arguably not invented here, it was made famous here.
The idea is that the doll represents a trip to the mountains, and more importantly to an expensive onsen resort! It would be proof to your friends, family and co-workers that you went.
Miyagi being full of onsen and mountains made it an ideal place for wood artisans to come, practice and sell their crafts. One thing lead to another, and they made the kokeshi famous!
Running delayed from our enjoyment of the castle and museum, we made our way back to Sendai hurriedly. After returning the car and visiting a few spots near the station, we made our way down to Utsunomiya [宇都宮市].
Finishing the night by doing simple chores, we prepped for the long travel day that is about to come up!
