Hi all, question about wakame. I'm planning on making miso soup but I haven't been able to find dried wakame locally. I'll order some online I expect, but I did find packets of this. Would this still work for miso soup?
Apologies if this is a really basic question, or not suitable for this sub. I'm very much a beginner with Japanese food, but very willing to learn.

Check amazon. Can also search for miyeok. It’s the same thing. The one you posted won’t work.
Not quite but could work in a pinch.
These are wakame snacks so they are on the saltier end compared to the neutral dried wakame typically used for miso soup
I haven’t tried this specific product, but based on a quick search this looks more like a salted snack/side meant to be eaten on its own rather than an ingredient! This guy is also made from kuki wakame (stem pieces) rather than the cut leaf wakame typically found in miso soup.
It may still be tasty and work well as an ingredient if you slice it thinly against the grain & take the extra salt into account when seasoning your soup, just not quite what you may have been expecting! I hope your soup turns out well OP!!
