Episode 35 – Hakodate Japan

Good morning. How we doing today? We’re in Hakodate, Japan. And if my voice sounds a little bit weird, I’m listening to music while I’m recording this. Uh, so we’ll see how it goes. Just felt like doing something different. Let’s go get some breakfast in Hakodate. tomato coffee. Oh, by the way, um I found a review of that dinosaur show from yesterday or two days ago. Oh boy, look at that logo. That’s great. Uh and it’s really cool. And I’m going to try to remember to put in the comments of that last video the link. Damn. Katsu sandwich. Wow. Wow. Hey. Oh, I like Kamita’s coffee a lot. Even as someone who’s allergic to coffee. Look at Tokyo Banana. Oh, wow. Are those like banana? I wonder how hard this is to do. Let’s see. Can I Google lens this somehow? There’s a QR there. Let me see. translate. Okay, let’s see. Uh, it’s a banana festival. Banana. What does that mean? Chiron. What is this? I get the sense it’s some sort of banana pancake, banana crepe, banana something. Where did our translation go? What happened? Come on. Let’s try that again. We lost the screenshot. Okay. No, it looks great. Whatever it is. Oh, you know what we could do? Hang on. I’m not giving up that easy. Let’s not give up that easy. Is that the same thing? Yeah, the Google translate was not wrong. Sure. Nor So, what’s in it? It’s a Danish pastry topped with soft serve ice cream. Okay, we get all that. Somebody else is trying to identify it. Okay. Um, [Music] okay. Okay. Here we go. Um, okay. Oh, see they’re complaining that the um there’s so much chocolate on it that you can’t actually see the pastry. Oh, they think it’s a good thing and they call it reverse fraud. Okay. Okay. So, I guess Kamita is a big chain. I’ve never heard of it before. It looks great. It’s like the Japanese friendlies. Man, strong start to the day. We had a little detour there, but Oh, okay. Do we have a full menu of the sandwiches? Okay. Um, I wonder what this is all about. Wow. Wow. Wow. I’d kind of like to save that first thing with the booths and try to figure it out later. Look at that. Oh god, I love that. That basically looks like some of my art just with toast instead of um hamburgers. Look at these. Wow, this is so cool. Oh my god. Kamita coffee, you’re amazing. Look at this. I love that little flag in the in the co saw. So, is it Let me go back. You might have caught it and I missed it because I was just too excited about all of this. Um, the toast in the basket. I know we saw a little something about it. Yeah. Okay. So, you pick a piece of toast and you get either a hard-boiled egg, some egg salad or bean paste. And then limited in certain areas they have a white peach jam as an option. Okay. Then for the toast, you pick butter or strawberry jam. Okay. Got that? Then you can add kleslaw, yogurt, a small salad, extra toast, extra egg, extra. Got it. Okay. Okay. And I’d like to come back. I’m just going to put this aside. I want to learn what this is all about when I’m done recording. Let’s go do our morning activity. Honestly, breakfast alone was a full day. It was so exciting. Hakodate Museum of Art. Hokkaido. Okay. Great lobby. So many of these museums people just take the same pictures over and over again. Wow. I mean, I love the um these little billboards for the exhibits and I like to see the exhibits, but um that’s amazing. Oh, those are great. I really like the Hakodate Museum of Art. I wish that um there was a lot more of the exhibits. Okay, let’s go get some lunch. seafood. Okay. I can’t really identify 90% of this. I’ll let you order. [Music] Seems like they have a handful of dishes. They must be good. All right. Afternoon activity. Wow, nice. There’s so much living history, you know, just so much. We’re never ever going to understand a fraction of it of like the the lives of the people that would have used this when it was new, what their lives were like. Never. begin to understand because there’s just so many different cultures and so many different situations. But there are enough of these buildings left that we can sort of wander through them and be confused and interested at the same time. It’s like in some ways this is just like the white plains of Japan. Weird. All right, nap time at the hotel. Hakodate Kokusai Hotel. Reasonably cheap. Looks good. Oh, that looks nice. Actually, for 118 bucks a night. I’ll meet you in that chair over there. That one right there. That’s where I’ll be waiting. Okay. This isn’t much different than the um public house we just visited. Like just think about visiting this aundred years from now. So weird. I might want to come back to this. Oh, this is seafood. I see. Oh, this is a mall. Okay. Outdoor mall. dinner time. I love that picture. All right. Um, last thing. Guess we’re going to the movies again tonight. Let’s see. Oh, wow. It’s really kind of strange and great. Reminds me a lot of like the quad cinema. I don’t I don’t know if quad cinema is still there. It might I would think it wouldn’t be, but it’s been so resilient for so many decades that maybe it still is. Anyway, um that was weird and interesting. I’m gonna find out about this um this thing and I’ll see you guys tomorrow. All right.
