Black and Abroad: Numazu Sister City Welcome
Yes! There really is a Kalamazoo…and a Numazu.
Numazu, Japan, has been the Sister City to Kalamazoo since 1962.
A delegation of local community leaders had an opportunity to visit Japan recently to
celebrate our partnership, history, and culture. In addition, I had the opportunity to
present our 2019 Girls Can! Magazine, which featured the Explorers’
last visit to Numazu. This was a great opportunity to
learn new things about Numazu, but to also foster a positive
relationship with our Sister City.
Kalamazoo and Numazu, Japan, have been Sister Cities since 1962. Today, the relationships continue as delegates from both communities join in to celebrate their cultures.
Sonya Hollins represented the Merze Tate Explorers as a 2025 delegate. This welcome shows that global sisterhood lives on. In this Black and Abroad episode, Sonya shares the history of this Sister City partnership.
