Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit Japan in the first week of October on the special invitation of the Japanese government, marking the first trip by a Pakistani premier to Japan in two decades.

During the visit, Japan is expected to unveil a major economic and trade package for Pakistan, covering investment projects, industrial development, technology exchange, and export promotion.

Several significant agreements and memoranda of understanding will be signed, hailed as a milestone in bilateral relations.

The last such visit took place in 2005, when then Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz travelled to Japan.

Japanese Ambassador Akamatsu Shuichi has termed the visit “exceptionally important,” noting Japan’s longstanding friendship with Pakistan and expressing hope that it will open a new chapter in relations.

Shehbaz Sharif will meet with the Japanese prime minister and other senior leaders, aiming to boost cooperation across government, business, education, and public sectors.

Separately, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif will visit Japan from August 17 for a five-day official trip.

She will address an investment conference and hold meetings with senior Japanese officials and business leaders to highlight Punjab’s investment potential and strengthen collaboration in trade, technology, education, and agriculture.
